Buy a laptop that has room for a 2nd HDD, as I have, then you can still backup on a schedule or manually as needed.
I have a 500GB SSD and a 500GB HDD.
Drive failure is still a possibility but it's unlikely both will die at the same time.
Backup to an external HDD when at home for additional assurance and as Zbook said, use the cloud. I would only do this for important data though. Too slow otherwise.
I plan on continuing to use Restore Points, although they sometimes have failed. Thanks for mentioning Mirror Folder, I'm researching similar appls for data BU. Of course I'll use multiple methods.
I'll BU C: entirely plus my data partition. Wish it was easier to separate programs from C:, for BU, but it seems some programs must use C: so it's moot.
Main thing I'm searching on is how to turn off autom driver updates in 10 and (still) if I can increase the number of Restore Points vs. just increase disk size. Otherwise I've got extra HDDs + a blu-ray & media so I should be good until Aug and a Ryzen build w/SSDs.
Well thanks everyone, appreciate the help.
I use Macrium Reflect after each Insiders release and if I don't get one in a week I do a back up anyway. I did use the tutorial on Sys Restore to do more frequent restore points. I have that just in case something weird happens between back ups. Have never had problems with Sys Restore and have had to use it a few times. One point: if you do Insiders you must re configure it after each new build is installed.
Enable or Disable Driver Updates in Windows Update in Windows 10 | TutorialsMain thing I'm searching on is how to turn off autom driver updates in 10
- includes a reg file.
Also note that some driver updates can be independent of Windows update.
Command line can be used to view restore points:
Open administrative powershell and type or copy and paste:
get-computerrestorepoint
If you perform a system restore that fails see if you can find this log file:
C:\Windows\Logs\SystemRestore
