Computer Hangs for 5 seconds periodically

Every now and then my computer has been freezing up completely for about 5 seconds. It doesn't matter what I'm doing, I can be gaming or web browsing or anything at all. If sound is going then it will freeze the sound at whatever the last frequency it played until it unfreezes. Event viewer never shows anything. My theory is its in the 2060 drivers, which I have geforce experience which automatically updates each time a new driver is released. I make sure every other driver is up to the latest as well. Any ideas?

Hi Nikado7,

Given this isn't a BSOD related issue, we'll need some different information and I will request this thread to be moved to the appropriate forum.

Go to Windows 10 SDK - Windows app development, download the Windows SDK and run the installer.
In the installation process, make sure Windows Performance Toolkit is checked.

Next, set the path environment variable and add the windows performance toolkit path: go to Control Panel\System and Security\System - advanced system settings, (click yes in the UAC window that should appear if you didn't disable it), click environment variables, double-click path under the system variables pane (or click it once and then click edit), and add C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Windows Performance Toolkit\.
If the path is not correct for you, change it to the appropriate path.

Next, we'll need to generate a trace.
Run the following command in an admin command prompt or admin powershell (right click > run as administrator)

Reproduce the problem a few times and then run the following command in an admin command prompt or admin powershell

xperf -d "%userprofile%\Desktop\trace.etl"

Zip the trace.etl file on your desktop (right click the file > send to > compressed (zipped) file) and upload the zip file.

Forgot to update this. There was a bios update and from that point on it didn't do it. However, there has been another damn update and I also clean installed (from an iso) the latest 20H1 build (18865.1000). All was well, got GTA online running and about 10 minutes in when I was just about to win a competition, it freezes. No sound no nothing, no HD lighting up, just frozen on the screen. Couple seconds later the computer turns completely off. However, I got errors logged this time maybe it will help.

This is all way over my head, thanks to anyone and the guy who just posted for helping. Hopefully get to the bottom of this before having to revert back to public releases

Considering you have an Insider Preview build for Windows 10 installed, this isn't really unexpected.

I would recommend to download the 17763 ISO and install the 1809 version of Windows 10 which is the latest stable version.

I just played it for over an hour with no problems. If it becomes a habit I guess I'll backtrack on the windows version. We'll see if it ever does it again.
