    A quick answer: it's your Seagate 3Tb HDD that's causing this delay.

    I haven't yet done a deep boot trace analysis. I'll try when having free time, to tell you more...

    Thanks to everyone that responded - I removed the 3tb seagate hdd and now boot time is about 10 seconds. THANK YOU!

    i did try a reformat first but it didn't do anything (plus a disk check which didn't show errors) so i guess i'll turf it now - it was getting pretty old.

    Something you may want to give a try, if possible, is using another unused sata port to confirm its not the port that's causing the trouble.
