    Windows 10 1809 Performance Tuneup

    Hello All

Should i purchase updated SSD Drive for birthday tomorrow on the 21st, Thinking Samsung 250gb SSD, right now have Western Digital, and when i was trying out Defender, it still took 12 hours to scan (full scan).

Gaming peformance doesn't seem to be too bad

Storage drive is Toshiba 1TB 7200RPM drive

    Any Advice is appreciated

Mostly slow when doing full scans with Defender, don't really see any slow downs otherwise that i can tell

    System specs listed fully

You'll notice a huge improvement with an SSD. If you use this as your main drive (Windows Installed) you'll see a huge improvement in boot time (normally regardless of system spec). I'd highly recommend you do this upgrade. Also Samsung do a good job for SSD's.

Windows currently installed on the Western Digital 250GB SSD, boot time is nice and fast, but just concerned a bit on Windows Defender scan times that seem excessively long, Avast scans when i ran that with all drives connected, internal and external, in under an hour.

Is it still recommended to proceed with the Samsung SSD upgrade?

Restoring Macirum Reflect image results in Getting Home License i guess from my UEFI bios, i transferred my old Windows 10 Pro license from out of service AMD FX system when i got this system, i had to contact Microsoft 2 times after that, as couldn't even get back to Pro, no idea why doesn't restore and stick with Pro when i do the restores.

Sorry! I misread your original thread.

Didn't realise you was already running an SSD. You say it took 12 hours to scan... is this a full system scan in which case it'll do all drives I believe. The secondary Drive how much of it is full? The SSD it should fly through so shouldn't be any real length of time.

Secondary Drive is 1TB Toshiba, Yes it is full system scan, just like i used to run with Avast, (didn't update specs yet) giving Defender a shot once again, i have switched a few times since the last clean install)

I'd also suggest running a Windows Update to check you're running the latest version. Defrag the secondary drive (Not the SSD!!).

    It also looks like someone has explained the Slow Performance of Windows Defender here;

Ok will read that Microsoft Community Thread in a moment, and will Defrag the secondary drive, and not the SSD. Windows Update shows no updates avaialble at the moment, 17763.316 winver shows

Not sure if the other thing to watch is when you do a full scan, does it show the location it's scanning i.e. are you able to see if its taking longer on the SSD or the secondary drive just to be sure? A full scan will always normally take 1-2 hours but should never take 12 hours unless it's the first time scanning.

Oh ok, it doesn't show the files it's scanning, just a blue bar, and estimated time on the screen, so no idea which file, and sleep mode is turned off currently

Maybe i'm just not used to using it yet, as previously used Avast for last 10 years (started with Avast Free in 2006, attempting to start using Defender, as not sure if the bloat, and using Avast is still needed or not)

    Malwarebytes Free clean, nothing found

Avast was removed with Revo Uninstaller, and Avast removal tool a few weeks ago

Last Clean Install December 22nd 2018

I never feel the need to scan with Defender, It scans itself. I also use MB but the paid version.
If a malicious item gets past Defenders active protection it is already too late. That is what active protection is for in Defender.
