    How do I re-activate Windows Installer-service ?

    Hello,

The Windows Installer-service stopped working after I installed and afterwards un-installed the Comodo Firewall.
Tried many methods to solve that problem but no success.
When I boot in safe mode, I can start the service, but in normal mode, it is stopped again.
How to solve this problem ?

Thanks in advance for your reply.
    Best regards.

Hi, sounds like a problem the Comodo forum may have experience with.

It may be incompletely uninstalled. There is an uninstaller tool, apparently:
Comodo Uninstaller Tool Use, Internet Security, Comodo Removal Tool | COMODO

If the problem is that it is not fully uninstalled, then reinstall it, then use Revo uninstaller to uninstall it.

Is this a problem you also have if you create a new user for test purposes and log in as that user?
If so, an in-place upgrade install which keeps all progs, data and most settings will probably not help you.

You might try Tweaking.com's free repair tool. Observe all the cautious stages carefully, and use only the relevant repairs related to services.

This is how it appears on mine. Why and how are you trying to start it?

    Hello,
    Thanks.
    Comodo software is un-installed.
    Problem still exists.
Have also the same issue with Windows Installer-service trying to install other software.
    Best regards.

Does that mean you have gone to Service.msc and "Start" the service ?

Note : You can also right click at Windows Installer > Properties > and start the service.

You could always try the update troubleshooter:

It may actually help. If that doesn't do it, try this TF tutorial Reset Windows Update in Windows 10 | Tutorials

Hello, Presumably you are saying you can't install any programs. I don't understand why you are trying to start the service yourself.

I don't believe you've read the various and different steps in my post, or understood them. I will explain them further for you.

Hi, sounds like a problem the Comodo forum may have experience with.
    - so why don't you post your problem there? People might have experience of this problem.
If the problem is that it is not fully uninstalled, then reinstall it, then use Revo uninstaller to uninstall it.
If your difficulty arises from it not being uninstalled fully, then this is how to uninstall it more thoroughly.
    a. Reinstall it.
    b. Run Revo uninstaller
    c. Start the uninstallation with Revo.
Is this a problem you also have if you create a new user for test purposes and log in as that user?
    a. Create a new user
b, Log in as that user
    c. Do you then have the same problem or not? Post the result.

Tto try to fix your services- if there is indeed a problem with them:
You might try Tweaking.com's free repair tool. Observe all the cautious stages carefully, and use only the relevant repairs related to services.
    a. Find Tweaking.com's web site
    b. Download and install the repair tool
    c. Boot to Safe Mode and use the tool.

Please post the result of each stage.

I hope that is now clearer. Thanks.

    Hello,

I did everything you mentioned above, but without any success (even after contacting Comodo).
I only have the problem when trying to install specific software : Comodo (which is completely un-installed now), Kaspersky, ...
When I try to start the Windows Installer-service, I got the message : error 1067 !!!!!

So, what to do now ???

Thanks for your reply and best regards.

Ah, of course I overlooked one thing- you can't reinstall the thing..! Sorry.. but in principle that's what you'd do.

You might just check using Autoruns (free from MS) that nothing from Comodo is still listed. (There's a search feature).

Well, you can try an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs, data and most settings.
You need an iso of the same build and base language as your current installation- freely downloadable.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade | Tutorials

Should there still be a remnant of Comodo causing this, this may not help though. If damage was done when uninstalling it, it may well help.

Given the situation, I concur completely with @dalchina and his recommendation to try an in-place repair upgrade install. Getting to the bottom of the situation may otherwise take much, much more time than any reasonable person would be willing to devote to such a task. Best of luck in getting things sorted & sorry for your troubles.
