    Ways to utilize ramdisk?

    So far i know you can install programs,store temp files and if your brave you can put your swap file on a ramdisk.

    But what other ways can you use a ramdisk to improve performance system wide with a ramdisk? Or how it says you can store your log files? What log files can you store on a ramdisk?

    So what are ways you can utilize a ramdisk?

    With fast SSDs Ram disk is not as useful as it was and it also needs an abundance of RAM which is more expensive than SSDs. One of good reasons for ram disk would be to use for scratch/temp files in programs like Adobe for instance. If you have enough RAM to make ram disk useful, swap file will not be used anyway but if you don't have some ridiculous amount of RAM and stile make a ram disk, it might have to swap to disk anyway.

    RAM is 20 times faster than SSD and it does not suffer from flaws, that SSD has, like a limited number of writes and degrading performance over time. The only issue is, that in the case of a sudden shutdown, everything gets removed. I have browser with cache installed in ramdisk. You can use Windows To Go there or install Windows in VM for the ultimate performance.

    Windows already has a system that provides most of the benefits of a RAMDisk with fewer of the disadvantages. For practical purposes it is a super RAMDisk. The system adjusts the size of the RAMDisk according to the changing situation. The contents is determined dynamically according to need and usage. There is nothing to install or configure. It is there right out of the box working to improve performance.

    Can you do better with a manually configured RAMDisk? If you really understand how memory is used in your system , maybe. But what happens in the majority of cases is that you improve some aspect of performance but you loose elsewhere. Overall you loose more than you gain.

    @smirk24 -

    Are you using an HDD or SSD?

    This is an excellent program that can handle both:

    Both of my systems have SSD's but one has a mechanical hard drive used as storage and where my personal files are stored.

    ive tried using it before but there was to many settings and i didnt have the brain power at the time to fully utilize. but thank you

    That's the beauty of the program - just set it (very easy) and forget it. Think of an autopilot.

    Take care!
