    Hi
I have tried this particular registry method & it didn't work timebroker still ran in background.
I then had a look in the same key under parameters, & noticed two files linked to the process
that are located in c:\windows\system32 folder, otherwise shown as %systemroot%\system32
TimeBrokerServer.Dll, &s TimeBrokerClient.Dll. I have used unlocker to rename these files to
be DisabledTimeBrokerServerDll, & DisabledTimeBrokerClientDll once these were renamed
I then opened services.msc went to timebroker and I made sure it was set as disabled. I then
I opened task manager killed off the timebroker process and I restarted my system OK so far
    Kind Regards
    MrPj57

Well that did not work, TimeBroker is still launched from somewhere else as it still runs
has anyone found a way to cripple destroy or remove it from your system permanently

It now uses 0% CPU so it is idling but the memory use is appaling cannot afford this app

Any followup feedback would be appreciated.

Someone mentioned that they solved this problem by going to Settings, System Display, Notifications & actions. Turn OFF "Show me tips about windows".

If that doesn't work, you can edit the Registry to disable "Runtime Broker", but this will also prevent Microsoft Store Apps from running.

Runtime Broker is a service called Time Broker, which can be disabled through editing the registry.

Right-click on the Start Menu Icon. Go to RUN and type regedit.exe and select OK.

    Find the following entry:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TimeBroker] "Start"=dword:00000003

    Change the 3 to a 4.

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TimeBroker] "Start"=dword:00000004

4 is Disabled, 3 is Manual and 2 is Automatic startup.

Before editing, the original value was 3. Set to 4 to disable. Just change the 3 to a 4 through the MODIFY menu selection, exit regedit and reboot your system.
It still runs, even after being disabled.

    Runtime Broker

It still runs, can there be another registry entry somewhere?

I have tried all the suggestions so far. My problem is several instances of runtimebroker.exe kept running causing my fans to run on high and my keyboard to be very hot. What finally worked for me is finding a way to keep multiple instances of runtimebroker.exe from continually restarting. I used NotePad to create the following script:
    TASKKILL /F /IM runtimebroker.exe
    (See addictivetips.com)
Then I used Windows Task Scheduler to schedule that script to run every 5 minutes. (See How to create an automated task using Task Scheduler on Windows 10 | Windows Central)
Every time it runs it will kill all instances of runtimebroker.exe. Interestingly a single instance of runtimebroker.exe will automatically be created but only one instance. By the time more instances pop up the script will run to kill them. This has kept my fans quiet and keyboard cool.

This is excellent I will try this. Question, would a notepad script also work to stop the Windows Services > Windows update, from automatically switching itself from Disabled to manual, and then activating on its own?
