Sleep/shutdown out of sync

Run powercfg /systemsleepdiagnostics and powercfg /sleepstudy from cmd.exe. Make sure that you run those reports in your My Documents folder C:\Users\USERNAME\My Documents (replace username with your username).

I can help with how to enter those commands [but not particularly with interpreting the results - my own use of such results is very haphazard].

The commands need elevated cmd or PowerShell windows. So right-click on your Start menu and select [whichever is there, which depends on how you have set your computer up]
Command prompt [Admin]
or
Windows PowerShell [Admin]

Then enter [choosing your own folder path instead of mine but keeping the .html file extension]

and then this when you have checked the first has worked correctly

Notes
1 You can also choose your own filename but I use the ones shown because those are the titles used within the output files
2 The "quotation marks" are only needed if the path or filename contain any spaces
3 If you do not use the /output syntax, the file will be saved in C:\WINDOWS\system32\

When you have these reports, you might find it best to post them so that somebody knowledgeable can take a look. I would suggest that you check the symptoms because I was not quire sure what you were describing
- when you find it in the bad condition & before you press anything, it is actually still running but unresponsive or is it really off? If it is on a network, can the other computers still see it?
- If the problem is so predictable that you can catch it within an hour of its occurrence then use Event viewer [%windir%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s] and look through its errors & warnings for the last hour [as shown on its opening screen]. Any more than an hour and you can get swamped with data.

It might be best to create a new question with an explanatory title such as Computer unresponsive, SleepDiagnostics reports posted
- You can add the report files to your question using the icon on the editing toolbar [the picture icon, two places to the right of the hyperlink icon - it works for other file types as well as pictures].

Personally, whenever I am faced with something related to problems after the display is turned on/off, I download another copy of the display driver from the computer/display maker and reinstall it. I also check for any BIOS updates because the BIOS & hardware are much more closely intertwined with Windows 10 than they used to be, apparently.

I am sorry that I cannot be any direct help with the problem itself. I only looked at this thread because two of my older computers have frequent problems if I allow their displays to be turned off. I have set both their power options to Turn off display- Never and they behave themselves now but I have never investigated the problem properly.
