    Cannot rename a photo

After downloading to desktop, I attempt to rename a photo file. Win10 not up to the task. This has happened repeatedly and I don't understand what's going on. Today after many attempts (rt clk on file - nothing happens), I thought if I rebooted it would clear out the problem. Did not like that either - it sat on "restarting" much longer than it should. So I pushed the power key. After the restart (which took longer than it should) I was able to rename the file. Now - is there anything I should do to address the situation. I know it's not good to manually shut system down but it wasn't going anywhere. Thanks.

I've seen that a lot and also on video clips. One can rename but it doesn't stick. Try adding a character such as a space or number or letter, save then go back and rename or change as desired. Haven't figured out why and which files have the problem but works for me. It's usually cleaning up downloaded files such as making the first letter Capital instead of lower case, add a second character as the capital, save then rename to remove the first letter.

Thanks - I'll give it a try. Here is the rename I wanted: 1-13. 10 has a few quirks for sure.

Also, it there some function I should do to clean up the bad restart and the manual shutdown?

I tested using 1-13 for a file name on a .flv video file and it worked. There are a few characters not allowed and usually a balloon showing them when tried. There are times when the drive or Folder is being indexed, noticed by the green progress bar, that don't take effect right away.

I don't worry about the cleanup after rebooting a couple three times if there's no noticable issues. There are diagnostics that can help, in File Explorer right-click the drive icon, click Properties and in the Tools tab run Error Checking.
