ThrottleStop Had The Audacity To Stop Working Re: Ver. Expired

When I booted up the other day I got the message that THIS version of Throttlestop has stopped working since it was out of date. Thanks for the heads up before shutting down : ) I only use Throttlestop to undervolt. Frankly it was not apparent to me how to "install" the new version without losing my settings but as it turns out I was led to a suggestion that informed me to just to replace the new .exe version in the same folder as the old one and that seemed to work.

If I am not mistaken one of the better go to guides on how to setup ThrottleStop is the one at NotebookCheck which is the one I used.

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/How-to....213140.0.html

However that guide I suspect though I do not know is getting somewhat long in the tooth now that it is almost two years old and I was wondering if anyone knows of a more current guide commensurate with the new version that is out, ThrottleStop 8.70. TIA.

    Would this help?

    Download ThrottleStop | TechPowerUp

Maybe the guide is in the software?

Thanks for the suggestion but sadly no at least there was nothing in the folder that I saw when I downloaded the new version and there is nothing in the program itself that has a help file of any kind that I could find.

If you are so inclined I started a thread at the TechPowerUp site that has already been closed and also interesting that first poster who replied insinuating I had an "Attitude" problem when I replied to him all I wrote was,"Tough crowd" which I thought was rather amusing but for some reason the moderator deleted that reply : )

From the last post in your thread at techpowerup:

Just a heads up. If you were happy with ThrottleStop 8.50, the ThrottleStop 8.60 download at TechPowerUp includes a re-release of ThrottleStop 8.50 with the expiry date removed. Other than that, it should be identical to the original ThrottleStop 8.50 release.

Yeah, I read that as well. I have not as yet had a chance to look under the hood of the new version 8.70 to see what if any noticeable differences there are between the one I was using which was ver. 8.50. Maybe 8.6 and 8.7 are only very minor upgrades and the need for a new thorough guide for 8.7 is not needed.

You can get 8.50 so no need for any changes at all.

Right again. I read what the author of the program said that he removed the expiration and stop working features from ver 8.5 after feedback from users but I read that AFTER I had already found that solution to just replace the 8.7 exe file in the Throttlestop folder for the 8.5 exe file. Still don't know when I will get around to checking under the hood. Possibly not until it warms up around here and thermals (inside the computer not to mention outdoors) rise which is any day now in the US desert southwest : )

    Tell me if I'm wrong...

Did the program truly speedup your laptop anyway?
    What about on a desktop?

You could probably change these settings manually.

Yeah, you may be wrong : )

    >Did the program truly speedup your laptop anyway?

Well I am not using TS to overclock but rather to under volt.

    what is undervolting

    >What about on a desktop?

Don't know but I would assume so as long as it is an INTEL CPU since TS does not do AMD

    >You could probably change these settings manually.

    No idea.

    Hmm...

Well, if you undervolt, AFAIK, you aren't going to see a performance gain.
Your laptop will last longer on a charge.

Maybe a 15-20% increase in battery life.

Have your tried turning off SpeedStep in the BIOS to increase performance?
