    Incorrect Icon In Taskbar

When opening a PDF file today I am seeing an icon for Movie Maker, not an icon for Adobe, in the taskbar. This happens when clicking a desktop shortcut for Acrobat reader Dc, but not happening when using a desktop shortcut for Acrobat XI to open the program (correct icon does appear in the taskbar).

I just ran a CCleaner routine to fix various problem areas, including the analysis for Cleaner, on Windows and on Applications, and for Registry issues.

A day or two ago, I was messing around with default app settings. Cannot recall what I actually might have changed there. Don't know if I have upset something there?

Am now running CCleaner again, after shutting down and then restarting up Win10 again. (No problems detected in the Registry.)

Within File Manager, I am able to view the PDF document in the preview pane. Clicking on the PDF filename does open the file in Acrobat XI. Using the "Open with" feature is successful in opening the file.

It appears that the abnormality is limited to an incorrect (Movie Maker) icon in the task bar when clicking the Adobe Reader DC shortcut and when double clicking on the filename from within File Manager. The PDF files are able to be opened.

Any ideas about correcting the incorrect icon in the taskbar ?

    TNX & Happy New Year 2019 !

Did you check Default programs to make sure that PDF's are associated with the proper program. CCleaner does more damage than good

    Hi Bro:

I just now rechecked Settings for "Choose default apps by file type".
For .pdf Adobe Acrobat Document, the icon shown is for Adobe Acrobat. In fact, Movie Maker is not shown as an option in the listing of "choose an app".

Try to reinstall Adobe reader. Or fix the installation.

    Hi Andre:

    TNX for your suggestion.

Unfortunately, after doing the repair action for Adobe Reader DC, the Movie Maker icon continues to show in the taskbar after opening that program from the desktop shortcut.

I changed the default setting to be Adobe Reader DC, and still no help or solution.

Two things come to my mind atm...

    1. tenforums tutorials |clear-reset-thumbnail-cache-windows-10

    2. tenforums tutorials | restore-default-file-type-associations-windows-10

scroll down to pdf and reset it to Windows default, then repair Adobe again - maybe this time it will stick.

    Incorrect Icon in Taskbar

Well now, I went to tutorial for How to Restore Default Apps for File Type Associations in Windows 10 and followed instructions given in OptionTwo for .pdf files. That changed the Registry to use Microsoft Edge for viewing pdf files. I managed to change things back such that Adobe XI opens the pdf file, rather than MS Edge.

No solution. I am now back to having Movie Maker icon/thumbnail appear within the taskbar after clicking on a desktop file icon.

It seems to me that the incorrect icon/thumbnail (Movie Maker) is being accessed (e.g., from a library area) for display in the taskbar, rather than accessing the correct icon/thumbnail (for Acrobat XI). I think it is not a problem for file association nor default app.
As I mentioned earlier, the files are opening up and run normally in Adobe XI; but the incorrect icon/thumbnail appears within the taskbar.

Is there a specific area where specific icons/thumbnails are associated with a correlated specific file types, and that may be changed/corrected by user?
