How do I move files from OneDrive to a local or remote drive?

My OneDrive is almost full and I can't seem to find the option to move files out or to copy then delete.

How do I fee up my OneDrive storage?

Option 1 - Down load the files from OneDrive using a web browser to your PC and drive of choice

Option 2 - Configure the Windows 10 built in OneDrive function to synch and download the files / folders you want to move (turn off Save space and download files as you use them). Then copy the files from your local OneDrive folder to another folder of choice.

The OneDrive files can deleted once the files have been moved

Sounds simple. But where is the download button? I can bring up OneDrive and I see options to upload files or to move from one Onedrive folder to another. But Where is the utility to DOWNLOAD files to a local or external drive?

See the attached image. Where is the download utility?? If I click on "new folder" and try to enter a path to a local drive my browser only allows me to create another Onedrive folder on the cloud.

Login, select the folders you want then the Download button. I don't know why you don't see a Download button.

You can drag 'n drop, also. I snapped the OneDrive Online to the right, and dragged 2 pics to the desktop. Could be to anywhere, long as both windows are visible. Then delete from OneDrive if you wish.

Okay thanks Steve. I do find that selecting a few files as you say and then selecting download OneDrive is slowly creating a zipped file. 10 minutes and 250 MB of 5 GB zipped. Hopefully after a few hours I'll be able to delete the files from OD.

I'm hoping now that I can find a way to move the files rather than download-to-zip then delete. Then maybe I can periodically empty my OneDrive storage.

Tomcat - I'll try your routine also.

"I do find that selecting a few files as you say and then selecting download OneDrive is slowly creating a zipped file. "

A zip file is only created if you select more than one file. In your case, I would just let the zip file create in the background, extract and either keep or delete what's downloaded. In my case, Onedrive downloads at 10 mbs so it doesn't take long. As the saying goes,'results may vary'.

The Onedrive files are on MS servers while yours are on your device. In Onedrive, you can only move or delete within the cloud interface, not move direct to another location. Afraid if you want to keep the files, you have to dl, then delete on Onedrive webpage to clear up space.
An FYI; did you know that if you Delete on Onedrive page, it goes into a Recycle Bin where it stays for 30 days w/o counting against your space, in case you want to restore ?
