    New Windows 10 build - Random crashes/reboots

    Hello,

I have just built myself a new Z370 system and very happy with the system itself but now I find (without knowing) that the Z370 system is windows 10 only and this has come as a shock. I am getting random reboots and it is basically driving me crazy. I game in vr (vive) and the pc seems to reboot at the slightest thing. I look at the event log and only just now it rebooted just because windows couldn't add an exception to the firewall rules.

Why can't the system just error and let you know without rebooting all the time. I have a 750 watt psu, so there's no power problems. I haven't been able to enjoy gaming for fear of it rebooting at random times and if it wasnt for the event log, I wouldnt have any info at all. I have turned off the reboot option incase of failures but it seems to still do it for any little reason. Is there anything I can do please without messing with stuff under-the-hood? (i.e settings)

Do other people experience gaming with constant reboots? I really feel trapped here because I have a vive setup with a wireless adapter and windows seems to be the only OS with drivers/software that supports the vive system and wireless adapter. Even Linux seems to be not an option for me with my setup.

I installed Windows 10 with an old installation disc I burned last year and because of reboot problems, I decided to download a newer .iso and reinstall with that. Seem the same is occuring. This is slowly driving me mad and I fear I have a real expensive system that is not going to be usable. I hate the spyware as it is, but how can Microsoft release an such a train-wreck of an os? I'm beginning to hate it more by the minute.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Hi and Welcome!

What you are experiencing is not normal operation. Are you running the latest system BIOS follow by all of the latest system drivers?

Also run sfc /scannow to check / repair the system files and chkdsk c: /f

Check the Event Viewer & Reliability History for clues. Install Bluescreenview to check the contents of any error dump files https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html

Check the security of all data lead and power connections in the PC including the power leads to the GPU.

Thanks all for your replies. Found out the cause of the reboots. I thought maybe the ram was suspect, so launched the windows memory checker. Only got a few % into the test and the psu was making some pretty horrid noises. Then it reset again. The psu (750) was an old one and I used it because The case has aweful space for psu and hdd mounts. Even though they were both 750 watts I couldn't understand the reboots. Anyway, through time and patience I managed to get the good psu into the case.

So far pc works fine and no more reboots or strange noises etc. Thanks for your help!

P.S Anyone know if its possible to dual boot Windows 10 and Linux on a Z370 motherboard? Because of telemetry and spyware, I am toying with the idea of web browsing etc on linux and have a partiton for window 10

I can recommend EVGA PSUs who offer a 10 year warranty

Yes, the 750 psu which was a little too big for the case but I managed to squeeze it in is an EVGA gold psu. Cost about £100 I think a few years ago. You certainly get what you pay for. Cheap ones cause more grief than anything.

I'm not so sure the PSU is the problem here..

Windows firewall has become like a mother-in-law with the latest build. I switched to Comodo not too long ago and never looked back. Otherwise she would have driven me to divorce.

Well, since swapping the power supplies it hasnt rebooted. Nothing all day. Still testing it closely though.
