    High CPU usage lately

    Hi,

Over the last few days I have noticed incredibly high CPU usage.

Cortana was once using 40% of my CPU for a few minutes.

League of Legends used 60% of my CPU and when I have say Edge open and League of legends it uses the full 100% and begins freezing, all of my drivers are up to date. please could anyone help with this, As I don't believe it's my hardware.

    Thanks.

Click on the Detail page then click on the CPU column to sort by CPU utilization. Post that image.

I have closed almost everything down so maybe this was not the best image to show.

I did include another image with 100% CPU despite it saying the game is using 60%+ this should not be the case.

What sort of processor are you using?

You might get more information by downloading and using Sysinternals Process Explorer - gives a little more depth of information than Task Manager.

This is from Sys internals and it's still showing CPU usage as being huge.

Task Manager, Details shows a lot of system activity, much more than normal. This is what mine looks like and is typical for me.

Looks to me like Black Desert and Discord are just using a lot of CPU resource. It adds up ...

I'm a self-employed computer geek and over 20 years of doing this stuff, I have plenty of customers out there. This past week my phone started ringing off the hook about slow computers that had maxed out CPU's.

My first thought that considering how wide-spread this issue was, that it had to be a Microsoft update as one was pushed out this past week. It still might be part of the problem, but only as a trigger.

What I found out is that the problem was an expired anti-virus.....in this case it was Webroot as that's what I put on all my machines. Uninstalling it fixed the problem.

I use AMD exclusively, and it could be the combination of that brand processor, an OS update, and expired anti-virus. It's a guess........but can safely say uninstalling the anti-virus fixed it. Reloading an unexpired A/V did not bring the issue back.
