I'm sorry to bring this very old thread back but unfortunately it was never fixed in recent updates for 1809 made in year 2020, not even with updates like KB4549949, KB4550969 & KB4551853

edit May 22 - I take most of what I said back - the problem was fixed in at least the KB4469342 update but it seems in my situation, the "BrightnessReset" task from Task Scheduler pretty much undid the fix [only occurs when upgrading from 1703 to 1809] - I deleted that task and rebooted and the brightness level is retained and no longer reset

Hi, i have the last win 10 version, and when i play games every time im in a dark spot the screen dims down making the game look gray too.

I've changed the intel power settings.
I cant find the adaptive brightness option in the power options menu in windows.

I spent 1500 euros to have a nice laptop with a nice screen only to have windows ruin everything just because yes

This is probably not the right way but I have a Dell XPS 14 and for years I lost the ability to change brightness on most major updates to Windows. There is a registry item that has worked for me and on this last update to 1909 it changed to 0001 from 0000 folder. It does not deal with adaptive brightness but maybe it helps you.

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0000] "FeatureTestControl"=dword:0000ffff
    Old value = 0000f000
