High end PC with FPS drops. High cpu temps in Speccy

I have been dealing with fps drops while gaming for a month now, and I have tried everything to fix it. It's been driving me nuts, considering the hardware shouldn't be performing so badly. When I do a userbenchmark everything looks fine and dandy, but in game I experience stuttering.



I can mention a lot of things, but today I downloaded speccy and noticed that CPU temps show up way too high. It goes down to 74 and jumps up to 82 on a loop. I dont know what's going on.

I have an AIO Kraken x62 and their software is showing a different and much better temperature.



If the temperature is indeed over 80C on idle, that would explain all of my performance issues in game.

I'm looking forward to getting some assistance. I have been getting depressed recently when i'm in the mood for gaming, and end up stopping and spending hours looking for a fix instead. I've been doing so for the past weeks almost everyday. I couldn't figure out the issue, but maybe speccy has revealed the answer. Or is it an incorrect reading?

Okay so it seems to be an issue with speccy. 3 other programs are reporting the same low temperature around 36C.

However they are all going on the same 10 second loop of starting at 36C and falling down to 27C and back to 36C.

Could this be a sign of something wrong?

I have a lot more faith in CPUID HWMonitor as being more accurate temperatures.
What you should do is clear Min/Max and leave that running whilst running something taxing so that it records a Max temperature.

Along with that you should see some action on Max fan speeds

The cycling on idle temperature would be due to the AIO cooler having nothing much to do on idle, would not worry about that yet.

Measurements on idle are almost pointless, you cannot deduce anything much.

I did a test while gaming and I experienced the usual frame drops, specifically from 250 fps down to 150fps in the game rocket league with every graphical setting turned down. I should be getting a stable 250fps with an asus rog strix gtx 1080. I monitored temps during and after 40 minutes the Max temp was 50C. So temperatures seem perfectly fine after all. Once again I am at a loss for what could be the cause of such fps drops.

I the game is installed on Samsung evo 860 ssd.
I have 16 gb ram running at 2933 14cl
Gtx 1080 with newest drivers, not overclocked.
No geforce experience bloatware installed
All drivers updated
Monitor is 60hz although that shouldn't cause fps issues. I'm going to buy a 144hz to test this too.
Power setting set to high
Tried various nvidia control panel settings

I have tried everything and at this point I think it might be hardware related. Since I built the pc myself, I need to figure out which part is causing issues. I've only had the computer for 2 months and it runs alright. I don't get any crashes or blue screen, although often while gaming it seems to get sluggish.

I have tried windows and game reinstall to no avail.

I have done memory test multiple times and they did not have any errors.

I'm thinking maybe it's a motherboard issue? Or cpu? Psu? Gpu?

Any idea how I can test each part?

I see no problem with your frame rates those are very much a variable anyway. You do not have an issue.
The human eye cannot see frame rates like that anyway.

You need to read around the subject of PC hardware to get an understanding.

I very much do have a problem because it's making it impossible for me to play. Everyday I feel like playing, I launch, play a few games, the fps is just bouncing around and I'm playing so bad. The computer cost me $2000 to build and I'm unable to play my favorite game. I'd say that is a problem.

Did you Google "Rocket League stuttering" ?? Most common cause would be your Internet speed and latency to the Server
FPS drops are normal and don't have anything to do with the stuttering

Try running with VSYNC ON and use Triple Buffering if available. Which monitor do you have? What is its refresh rate (Hz)?

Also, some games seem to hate Hyperthreading. If so you could do some quick test disabling it in BIOS and testing afterwards.
