Event viewer on laptop-unable to create a custom view

Am trying to create a custom view within Windows 10 x64 1809 on my laptop.
Regretfully I can't select a log file - or whatever - all is greyed out.
This versus event viewer Windows 10 x64 1803 on PC.

    Does anyone have a suggestion?

    Thanks!

I suggest some actions that might fix the problem & will at least point the way for future actions:-
1 Create a new user and see if that account is also afflicted with the problem
    2 If so,
    2.1 Run SFC, DISM
    2.2 Run a Repair install
3 Boot into safe mode and find out if that is also afflicted.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

    Thanks a lot.

Frankly, it's a bit 'strange' to start fixing things after a clean install (formatted drive).
Am the only user and thus administrator.

Solved, the 'fix' is relatively easy, but also relatively hard to find...
Also somewhat difficult to understand why things are related.

Adjust display resolution: mine was set (defaulted) to 125%, after changing to 100% the drop down worked as expected.

Astounding. I have just tried this on two Ver 1803 computers and I had the same results as you.
[[Added on 24th Nov 18, the problem does not exist on my sole Ver 1709 computer. As you can see on the next page, this is consistent with what @Farvatten discovered.]]

One of my computers routinely has 125% scaling and I would never have suspected the explanation you just posted. [All its Event mgr, Custom views have been imported from my other computers so I had never seen the problem.]

    Thanks for posting your solution,
    Denis

Well spotted. I can confirm that this bug is reproducible in 1809, 17763.134. I can also confirm that it is present in 1803, 17134.407. You should report it in the Feedback Hub.

    @Try3 @bree
Thanks for getting back on this.
Should either one of you be running the Feedback Hub software, please would you then report it?
Point is: I've never used Feedback Hub and a quick check learns that probably I need to download and install software(?)
Well, basically, for me, this is just a one-off thing.

You should have the Feedback Hub already installed by default, I do. Type feedback in the Cortana/Search box and you should see it.

I've submitted a report, but as I don't have a Microsoft Account I can't follow up the report to see what (if any) action may be taken.

Holy Moly! I've got this issue also and was able to reproduce it on current 1809 (17763.134) and Fast Ring/Skippy (18282.1000) PCs. I didn't even know it. Thanks for bringing it to our attention, AND for finding a workaround. Good job, @tfwul!

Just wrote a blog post about this issue: Default Screen Res Kills Event Viewer Log Filtering - Windows Enterprise Desktop Please note your shout-out at its conclusion @tfwul!
    Thanks again,
