Well, when I'm short of space I get a bigger drive. If you had 43 GB free and after compression you had 50 GB free ... you've gained very little.
After all, that little dribble of extra storage will be gone soon enough. Then what?

I'd instead just buy a 2 TB drive and be done with it.
Or, if it's an SSD, I'd bump up to a 512 GB at least.
Storage is cheap. Fussing over a few GB savings isn't worthwhile for me.

If you have a powerful enough cpu and a very slow harddrive (5400rpm hdds on laptops), you will probably get a performance boost.
On w10 v1809 I have noticed that compactos now compacts FONTS and INF folder. (Have to test this further).
I have also noticed that Office 2016 is installed compressed by default (Probably using default xpress4k, which is not very good).

Its probably all relative. My Acer uses an AMD64 Turion processor and is slow by modern standards, but I suspect the HDD is comparatively speaking a lot slower still. For example creating a disk image on my Dell takes around 3 minutes (SSD and i5) but the Acer takes nearer 40-45 minutes. Image sizes are not to dissimilar, however the Dell is actually the larger.

These two posts show the relative difference in performance between my two laptops. I was looking for this post the other day and couldn't locate it. Thanks John

Post #44 for the Dell and post #56 for the Acer.
