    Laptop battery not charging

This is yet another issue I am experiencing after the 1809 fall update, nothing else in my system has been changed other than the installation of the 1809 fall update, so I am confident it's at the root of the problem.

Let me first state I never use my battery, ever, and it always stays at 100% full charge, but after the 1809 update the battery's charge has slowly been depleting (currently 93%) and is "Not charging" and the battery indicator light stays illuminated 24/7 even when the laptop is off, this was never the case before the 1809 update.

Anyone have a remedy or a fix for this issue? Thanks.

Your specs say you have an ASUS N73JQ. Check your ASUS Battery Health Charging settings, the upgrade may have switched it to 'Balanced mode' which aims to extend the battery life by only charging if the charge drops below 80%.

Thank you for your reply, Bree. The 1809 update did switch my power plan to "Balanced mode" and I had to switch it back to "My custom plan". I have all the battery saving features either a) disabled or b) set to their lowest setting.

    Code:
Additionally, it appeared the update was causing computers' processors to overexert themselves, resulting in a lower battery life for laptops. The excessive processor use appears to result from compatibility issues with the Intel Display Audio drivers running with some Intel processors, and Microsoft is aware of the issue. The company is now blocking downloads of the new update on potentially affected machines until the correct drivers are installed. "We recommend that you do not attempt to manually update to Windows 10, version 1809, using the Update Now button or the Media Creation Tool from the Microsoft Software Download Center until newer Intel device drivers are available with the update," Microsoft said on a support page.

Thanks zbook, unfortunately I am past the 10 day rollback period. I guess I will just have to live with 1809 and all its "quirks".

all the notebooks at work , HP 9470/80, 840G1-G4 , have never shown 100% charge. They all show around 95-97% maybe some as low as 93%. That's why it says "not charging" ..the battery is charged. It should say "plugged in and not charging" . what you should do is go on battery and let the notebook run down to 30% or so and then see if the notebook charges back up. If yours displayed 100% , I have never seen that before. Not even when we had Dells.

Doesn't the battery light illuminate when a laptop is in 'Sleep' or 'Hibernate' and that process slowly depletes the battery.

Might be worth checking the power options and checking that sleep or hibernate is not enabled somewhere.

It is not specifically a 1809 problem I had it with 1803, stuck on 90% charge.
I corrected the problem during 1803. Nothing changed with 1809.

Battery capacity does degrade over time, mine is about -8% per year.

I did all the things listed, can't pinpoint what actually worked. Unstuck something somewhere ??

There are several things you can try.
    1) Calibrate your battery.
    2) Disconnect battery for a while and reconnect it.
    3) Uninstall manufacturers application temporarily, install again or not, called Eco Utility on mine.
    4) In the one Power Plan (Balanced) reset to defaults.
5a) Unplug charger lead, run down battery, plug in charger again.
5b) Switch off charger while charging, run down battery, switch charger back on.

Action 2) Battery, on mine can be done by a pinhole reset on the underneath, or entering the UEFI and switching off battery for servicing. Yours probably differs.

Should only be using power in Sleep, the power light generally will slowly pulse to show that the PC is sleeping.

Hibernate uses no power at all. In fact I have in the past hibernated a laptop and swapped out the HDD so I could put in a spare to do test installs. On replacing the original it resumed from hibernation as if nothing had happened.

Thanks Bree I never use either normally and wasn't sure... yes on my Dell it does pulse in sleep. It boots so quickly there is no real need to use it though.
