    Disk Cleanup

    Question if I may, Please
I have an up-to-date windows-10 home desktop, including new (October) feature update. I have been reading that CCleaner is not recommended any longer. Instead, use Disk cleanup. Sure would appreciate someone guiding me on what NOT to delete so I don`t ruin any options to repair or reset system if needed. I have researched, but am still unsettled on what to check to delete...Thank for any advice...Jim

You Might want to try Wise Disk Cleaner .

Download Wise Disk Cleaner - MajorGeeks

There is a Video tutorial there, as for Disk Cleanup-you can remove everything it finds, if Windows needs it it will replace it. Welcome To The Forum .

There are two routes to Disk Clean-up. One is via the start menu and settings > storage and then 'Free up space now' option. The other is the traditional route which I prefer. You should be able to tick ALL options (they are self explanatory) for a good clean up. Nothing will break or stop working. If you use the traditional option then be sure to click the 'Clean System Files' option as that selects more in depth items to clean.

Warning if using Disk Cleanup - 1809 now has a tick box in Disk Cleanup to delete everything in your Downloads Folder. Be careful you do not tick that box if you do not want that folder wiped!

It is more obvious in Storage Sense as you can se option to NEVER.

@cereberus Thanks! for the heads up on Disk Clean. I noticed the new feature to delete everything in "Downloads Folder" yesterday. It will catch many users by surprise. I have to wonder why MS would do that.

Probably on Ccleaner, they don't want you to use it because on the Registry tab, it will scan registry and show a list of old prefetches that can be used to troubleshoot windows or you can go back to the old version. if you delete those registry keys and don't back them up as recommended, you mess up.

I think it was mostly because of CC changing their auto updating and ..Why You Should Stop Using CCleaner on Windows Right Now This and other postings is what got me wondering....Thank you...
