Drive F since Windows 10 Update

After an updated three months ago, my external drive "F" was changed to "G". I was checking "Win-X"-Disk Management and "F Drive" came up with:

    F-Simple-NTFS-Healthy-Cap 850mb-308mb free 36%

I tried to find what was in F Drive and couldn't find out. How can this happen, how come I have a drive with information on it, such 542mb, what is going on? And I would like to know if someone is storing my documentation on a secret drive?

Hi, please post a screenshot of your partitions with Minitool Partition Wizard (free).
Expand columns as necessary to show all text.
To post a screenshot please use the Insert Image icon above your post.

In MT P Wizard you can rt click, explore the partition to view its contents.

    Post a screenshot.

At a guess, your Recovery partition has been assigned a drive letter.

I downloaded that programme, and in the process the site downloaded two other programmes that I didn't need. I uninstalled one, such as a Defender Shield, but I have AVG Antivirus FREE 2018 on my computer and I can't uninstall the AVG.

I am having problems in attaching a screenshot as I could find anything above to post it.

    Thanks

Oh dear, at a guess, you went to a rogue site like Softonic, maybe one with a big green download button.
Minitool Partition Wizard is a reputable program. Softpedia is a good site to avoid bad downloads.

Best Free Partition Manager for Windows | MiniTool Partition Free

AVG probably provides a manual uninstall tool if you search for that.

Or you could try using a system restore point.

Turning to your screenshot- it looks as though, as I suspected, a Recovery partition has been assigned a drive letter. Note the column has not been expanded to show all text, and there's more to the right off the shot.

If you use MT P Wizard thus as I suggested (Rt click the partition, click Explore) you may see this in that partition just to confirm:

    Drive F since Windows 10 Update-1.jpg

So all you need to do is to remove the drive letter.

(There are instructions on forum use, posting etc in the menus at the top when you need them).

A useful free tool to uncheck options in rogue installers that seek to plague you with extras is Unchecky.
(I've noted it does use a little CPU time which seems unnecessary).

Thanks for that---I completely forgot about the RESTORE---that soon got rid of it, but I will have to download that APP again and send you another image.

You did say about recovery, and I noticed there was already a recover file.

Thanks for your time and interest, will dig a little deeper.

Oh by the way, I am 81 years of age and struggle a bit with the computer these days, when I forced into WIN 10 I had a panic attack.

Hi, understandable- changing to Win 10 can be confusing for anyone. My father never used or tried to use a PC. You;d think these things would be simple and uncomplicated- consumer products.

Apparently Apple products (can I mention those here? ) are far less problematic.

It's not unusual for there to be 2 (perhaps more) Windows Recovery partitions. Only one will be in use. Quite often a new recovery partition is created when upgrading. Usually the space wasted is not significant.

If the contents of yours is similar to my screenshot then just use MT P wizard to remove the drive letter.

Your large D:Recovery partition will most probably be a manufacturer's factory reset partition- used if you wished to have the PC exactly as bought.

It could well now be entirely redundant, especially if it related to an older version of Windows e.g. Win 7 or 8.

Thanks mate, not prepared to go to the site as that is the site (Minitool) that I had gone to and it downloaded those two programmes.

I was concerned that "F" Drive was my external drive until MS upgraded WIN10 and stole it from me and gave me "G" Drive for my external drive. That is why I am suspicious and why is there 836MB stored on it and only 300MB left. I was wondering if this large volume on the now "F" Drive is the reason for my computer playing up and whether it's a hack into my information as I checked my wife's computer and there is nothing like this. I was wondering if they whoever they is, is copying my documents.

I would like to expand them but I am a bit suspicious about downloading from that site again.
