100% Disk usage while copying data from USB drive

    Hi all,

I'm facing a weird issue with Windows 10 where if I'm copying data from my USB 3.0 drive to my Hard drive it takes the disk usage to 100% thereby making the computer unusable. I'm having a Dell Inspiron 15 5577, 7th Gen Intel Core i5-7300HQ with 8 GB RAM, 5400 RPM 1 TB HDD, 4GB Nvidia GT 1050 running Windows 10 Version 1803 Build 17134.228.

I've been noticing this on with Windows 10 from the very beginning. What can be the issue?

    Thanks in advance :)

See what CrystalDiskInfo shows you about the drive.

One or two people have experienced very low transfer rates in 1803 because of low level driver issues. However those cases were experiencing a much much greater restriction than you are seeing.

Your laptop is on Dell's approved list for 1803

Have attached screenshot of the same.

PS: Hard drive is just a week old as the older one died and was replaced under warranty.

I've been getting this issue since I'm using Windows 10. I feel like using a Pentium 4 processor laptop

with Windows 10 from the very beginning.
Have you had previous builds of Windows on this PC - e.g. 1709, 1607... or just 1803?

You could explore further by getting a trace with Windows Performance Recorder (which you need to download).
You can find threads in this forum where people have used this if you wish to see examples.

I had previously upgraded the Windows but since this is a new Hard drive so I installed 1803 directly.

I do have performance recorder installed however I'm not sure what to record here? Last time I had slow startup issue where I ran the recorder.

One example here with examples of Windows Performance Recorder traces- in this case re-enabling superfetch helped.
Others have found exactly the reverse.

Post #5 here gives WPR settings (this thread lacks any response/conclusion, as do a number of such threads.

Have already set this for Better performance but the issue here is that the disk usage spikes to 100% the moment I start transferring files from USB to my Hard drive.
