    Disk Cleanup

When Disk cleanup and, or Win 10 storage clean up is run in Admin or User modes, the Temporary Internet Folders always show 640KB/140MB of temp files remaining after cleanup is complete. I can run the Disk cleanup 1 x 2 x 3 x make no difference. Admin shows 640KB, User 104MB. after cleaning.
Clicking on view files shows the folders are empty? The folder path is "User > AppData > Local > Microsoft > Windows >INetCache >IE" Following the path, no such folder "INetCache IE. exists.
Is this normal, or am I missing something.

This appears to be a bug. It looks like Disk Clean up is loosing track and misreporting the size of temporary internet files, rather than there actually being any temporary internet file to clear up. This has been reported on and off for over a year.

There is a known workaround that resets the count back to zero, but the apparent 'size' will eventually start to grow again. Mine currently says 6.33MB.

The workaround is to move the location of IE's cache, but there's a catch. Once moved, you cannot move it back to its default location without editing the registry. The workaround is described here...

This reminds me about running Ccleaner and then seeing that it was unable to clean everything in a browser that was closed.
Were you able to compare the result using disk cleanup to Ccleaner?

In my case CCleaner doesn't find the 6.33MB of temporary internet files that Disk Clean up reports, suggesting that the 'files' don't actually exist.

@Bree Thanks for the explanation. Yes I've tried CCleaner it doesn't find the files either. I don't even use IE, but, after I posted I opened IE Browser and deleted Internet temp files cookies... I ran Disk Cleanup again with no change. It's still reporting 140GB of temp files. Rather than trying to get around the issue I'm going to leave as is, it's more of an annoyance. It's obvious MS have no intentions of fixing the IE bug.

err, I think you meant MB

By even if it did say GB, I can't see any evidence that the size reported is actual physical files that occupy any disk space - it seems to just be a 'glitch in the Matrix' and safe to ignore.

I'm not sure if I have solved the OP mystery of Disk Cleanup misreporting 140MB of temporary internet files that Disk Clean wouldn't delete. I don't use Edge, but I opened the Browser to delete any history cookies...Whilst there I signed into my MS account (first time) and opened up the my account Activity Dashboard. I was kind of when I saw what MS new about my activities from Edge. Cortana, location, Cloud Browsing History... Cleaned up all (deleted) of the logged activity in my account and closed Edge.
Next: Opened Disk Clean up, selected to clean the 140MB if Temporary Internet Files and to my surprise it actually cleaned the foles and showed 0 bytes. That's a first in a long time. I'll post if the 140 MB of junk re appears.
