Windows.old will NOT delete with Cleanup option!

Hi, I did a Reset PC and I want to remove the Windows.old folder but the popular method of using System Cleanup is not working for me. I had originally tried to just delete it before discovering that I couldn't get rid of it all, so my folder if approx 36.6 MB but it's stubborn and is persisting despite the Cleanup method. And just deleting won't work either. Which is why I'm escalating here to see if someone can offer me help - there must be a way to do it that is beyond my knowledge. Maybe a command prompt?

Windows is supposed to delete it after (I think) 10 days. I did delete one here with File Explorer and no problem with it. Rest assured, someone with more knowledge will come in with more and better information. Good luck ...

That's one way, but it has to be a command prompt at boot. The inability to delete windows.old while the system is running is usually because it (incorrectly) thinks some of the files are in use. So booting from something else and deleting while the system isn't running is the answer. Option Three here...

OK, this did NOT work either. Freed up 41MB but Windows.old still stubbornly there. Scrolling down to see what other solutions have been proposed here...

Yes, it is a bit frightening if you've not done anything like that before. Glad to hear you got it to work (though not surprised it was successful).
