Freeing Space in this Small Drive

    Hi!

I've got 1.45GB free of 28.6GB in my computer. How do I free up space (like 6GB more) so I can install a program?

I tried to find programs that take up additional spaces but I couldn't find any. Is Windows 10 occupying most of the 28.6GB of this computer?

What can I do to have that extra 6GB of free space here?

Have you run disk cleanup > clean system files > check all boxes and then apply to run? That should clean up old update files if they are still on your drive.

Item '21. Turn off System Protection for drives' is particularly effective if you have a lot of restore point.

Item '14. Use Disk Cleanup' too, particularly if you clean you system files. Disk Cleanup's 'Windows Update Cleanup' will clean up the Component Store, but if you need the space it can be made more compact still using the ResetBase option in Option Three.

    But note the warning...
All existing service packs and updates cannot be uninstalled after this command is completed. This will not block the uninstallation of future service packs or updates.

With that small partition size you may need to compact everything you can.

    Check this OLD THREAD.

On August 8, Kari posted an interesting article on this topic to Win10.Guru. You might find it worth looking over. Check it out at Windows 10 – How to cope with small system disk – Win10.Guru.

You might have to eventually purchase a larger drive -- because programs and utilities and their output is growing in byte-space almost daily.

Tell us about your computer? Make and full model number especially. Link to a web site with it's specifications or support page would also help.

All good tips above. Consider using CCleaner to delete various temp files (run it for each user) and to delete unneeded restore points if you use system restore. Also use TreeSize Free to find out what's taking up space. You can use DriverStoreExplorer to find and delete old drivers some of which can be quite large.

Consider also Wise Disk Cleaner and Patch Cleaner but these need to be used with care.

I installed w10 v1803 on a netbook with a 32GB SSD drive and I managed to have almost 52% free space after everything was installed. Of course compact was used extensively to compact both OS and Program Files data.
