No desktop

Out of no where. I have no desktop, I just get the taskbar and i have to search for all the programs. I don't know what to do and I cant find anything online. If I click and drag nothing happens like it normally does.

If you haven't restarted try it.

Also see if there a windows is deactivated message on the bottom right or in windows updates/ activate.

Sounds like you were signed in with a Temporary profile. Click the Start button and see if your normal icon is above the power options. If not, refer to this tutorial to repair but beware that anything you do in this state will be lost when repair is finished, so don't do anything you wish to save.

No, I have had this problem for like a couple months.

Does the start menu items appear at all if you hit the win key ?
If nothing I'd see about an inplace upgrade I suppose if you don't have a restore image made :/

Okay so I updated my pc and now I have a background so that is progress, I can't get icons on the desktop yet so I dont know what to do. If i hit windows key nothing happens. All I have is the taskbar.

Assuming this is a recent issue.
Do a system restore. Pick one of the days BEFORE you have this problem as your restore point.
