How many modules do you have? If two, try computer with one RAM module in at a time, and look for any differences in overall system performance. RAM is one of the most common reasons for problems - and it is easy to fix, too, of course.

So you just skipped right over the part where this is a laptop, then?

OP; I think your laptop has an AMD 16h family, processor like mine. There were updates around June/July that caused some of these systems to slow dramatically. Mine was affected but this weeks update fixed it and I am now back to normal.

I don't know if this could be your problem but have a look at my post at the end of this thread if you like. Your opening post suggests it only happened recently but it depends when you installed the update(s) that caused it.

    Cumulative Update KB4343909 Windows 10 v1803 Build 17134.228 - Aug. 14

Addresses an issue that causes high CPU usage that results in performance degradation on some systems with Family 15h and 16h AMD processors. This issue occurs after installing the June 2018 or July 2018 Windows updates from Microsoft and the AMD microcode updates that address Spectre Variant 2 (CVE-2017-5715 – Branch Target Injection).

June/July could be about right, actually. Is this just a Windows Update thing?

Yes, or at least some issue between a Windows update and the AMD processor/BIOS code. If you go back to check the version again as I think you did already (command prompt, winver) but this time check the build number in brackets. (e.g. Version 1803 (OS Build 17134.228) ). That is the build version for me that has fixed it. So if you have that version and it's still slow you might have a different issue. Otherwise, check you are up to date with Windows updates and hope it fixes it.

Just updated, and it's still an issue.
