    Windows 10 slows down USB 3.0 transfer speeds

    I have been testing my Lenovo W550s USB 3.0 speeds.

    When I am using my backup software Macrium Reflect it can reach speeds of 1Gb/s and average speed for the backup us 600Mb/s.

    When I just do a file copy in Windows 10 Explorer, cut/paste or copy/paste I get transfers of High->120Mb/s, average-> 70Mb/s. Quite a difference.

    Nothing changes between test on the laptop, BIOS etc. All is the same. So Windows must have a setting that limits USB.
    How can I speed up Windows 10??

    That's how it is. Macrium Reflect is transferring 1 large image file. Doing that is much faster than doing a lot of smaller files.
    There is nothing wrong.

    You can do an experiment yourself by making a ZIP file out of a large number of smaller files. then copying that ZIP file.

    Even so, 70 Mb/s is on the low side. Something is not right.

    Anyway, MR is not really transferring one image but creating an image so still has to open hundreds of files, shrink them etc.

    So I do not think this is the reason.

    Completely wrong. Both the transfer speeds are nearly the same.

    ts1 = 70
    ts2 = 600 / 8 = 75

    See my post above regarding units.

    Where is your evidence OP is incorrectly stating units. I agree it is quite likely the right answer though.

    Try to copy files in explorer, see dialog, compare with macrium screenshot...

    Btw, 70 MB/s corresponds to avg. write speed of lowend USB3 flash drive or 5400 rpm 2.5 inch HDD... so OP measured rather his external device speed than the speed of USB port.

    Doing a file copy in Windows 10 Explorer the units are displayed in MB/s, Macrium is using Mb/s.
    The original post is merely a displayed units thing, Bytes rather than bits. Both the speeds are essentially the same.

    The units have been mistyped/read, often happens.

    Same conclusion, nothing is wrong.

    Right, traditionally b = bits and B = Bytes. 8 bits = 1 Byte.
