How I speeded up my Win 10

I shall try Macrium, thanks for the supportive comments. I can only repeat that the improvement in performance without Acronis is very noticeable.
AFAIK. Acronis is fully removed. I can find no traces of a folder, in the startup, in the Register or in the Task Manager.
Sadly my eyesight is deteriorating but I'm going into hospital soon for surgery. So hopefully it'll be next week before I have the time to check out Macrium.

I was an Acronis user for years. Hated their money sucking scheme where you could never update your current version to work on a new version of Windows, you always had to buy their next version. I used Acronis from version 4 or 5 through 7.xxx then finally gave up. The interface got harder and harder to use and the cost kept going up.
I tried several other backup programs including Macrium Reflect Free. Finally settled on Macrium Reflect Pro as I want the scheduling options. I'm completely satisfied with it and thus far have not had a single problem with it in 3+ years.

Indeed ! Macrium is , without any doubt , the best backupper !
I only use the boot-CD of it , no install , works great ! ( backup/restore with this CD)
I have Acronis installed only for the Try&Decide-function , I dont use it for restoring/backups......
I wish I could install this T&D-function only , so without the completely bloated installer !!

Did you do the detailed checks I mentioned in post 8? Acronis software can remain embedded in your PC even when you think you have removed it.

Actually there is a special Acronis Uninstall program that one needs to use to rid his/her system of that pesky software. I used to have a copy, but I think if you have a lic, you can download their clean up program from their web site. Note that this info is 7 years old before I switched to Macrium Reflect.

Cheers I'll check that out next.

Hi,
I gave up doing system images inside the os
I just simply use the winpe cd/ flash media twice as fast and more dependable imho
One will usually end up using the winpe to recover a system image anyway might as well get used to it

Be sure to run a complete backup before you run the Acronis Cleanup program. It hosed my system so badly that Macrium wouldn’t run afterward. I had to do a clean install.

Can't do scheduled backups that way though. With Macrium this is painless. I do my boot drive (SSD) every Friday at 8PM. It's setup as a differential backup set, one full then maintain 3 differentials. Merges the oldest differential into the full. DItto for my D: drive which is where my other important data resides.
The incrementals take 5 minutes on average.

The Acronis uninstaller didn't work for me - see my pain here https://www.eightforums.com/threads/...drivers.62551/
