    CDPUserSvc using high CPU

Since 1 week I have been observing that my battery is draining higher and battery getting hot. After observing found that CDPUserSvc is using around 30% CPU. I think it is because of recent window updates. I tried uninstalling recent updates but no changes. I tried disabling CDPUserSvc using registry and found that the CPU usage decreased but I can't use my task view. Whenever I click task view, the window gets refreshed kind of restarting explorer.exe

Tried isolating the process y running a few commands in Command Prompt

    - Nothing happens

Tried Create a .bat file to stop the Cdpusersvc service

    - CDPUsersvc get disabled(it's type value changes ). CDPUsersvc_xxxxxxxx is not seen in registery. Task view is still not working

    Any Solution please.

    Hi, relevant thread here:
ERRORS Connected Devices Platform Service-CDP User Service-CDPusersvc - Windows 10 Forums

    Discussion here:
What is the CDPUsersvc for ?

Note: FWIW, I don't have this running on my PC.

I am not getting an error. I want to disable CDPusersvc without affecting my task view or a way to lower its CPU usage

Thank you very much for your reply.

I know and can appreciate you naturally want an instant fix. There may be something there that helps. I know no more- probably someone else will.

    What is your windows build?
    Windows key +R, winver.

If you can take the trouble to actually read the link, rather than discarding it 'cos it mentions 'error' you may find something you can use.

    Thank you for your time

I am using Windows version 1803 (Build 17134.191)

I am not directly coming to this forum for help. I have search and tried various option presented by google including the one of the link mentioned by you. I am a biologist so I don't understand much of the stuff given on that link. I things i have tried is registery disable and few other methods.

The problem to the solution most of the forum have mentioned is wait for Windows update, delete install update (I tried but no use) or disable the registery. On disabling registery most of user CPU problem have been solved and even mine too except on clicking task view explorer.exe gets restart and I can't access task view. so I am thinking there might be other problem. So for this reason I have asked for help in this forum

It's not something I recall seeing discussed here, but there is that one thread I posted above.

It might help if you looked here in the registry
    CDPUserSvc using high CPU-1.jpg

and posted how you see your exact service described.

Note: there is one program I know of that gives you the ability to limit CPU use by a process- just as a temporary measure to reduce CPU usage:

BES, Battle Encoder Shirase 1.7.7 1.6.3: Controls Per-Process CPU Usage

Ignore the fact it only mentions old versions of Windows. It's free, so while you're waiting for a solution, you could try it.

(I don't have build 1803 for good reasons- so best wait for someone who has).

Sorry, I don't have a fix for your high cpu usage from CDPUserSvc

I tried disabling CDPUserSvc using registry and found that the CPU usage decreased but I can't use my task view. Whenever I click task view, the window gets refreshed kind of restarting explorer.exe
AFAIK ... this is by design as MS is using the CDPUserSvc for the Task View / Timeline and as you found out, disabling it breaks Task View / Timeline. I'm using Win10 Home -1803 (17134.191) and if I disable CDPUserSvc my Taskview / Timeline breaks and I see the same thing as you're seeing.

CDPUsersvc get disabled(it's type value changes ). CDPUsersvc_xxxxxxxx is not seen in registery.
IIRC .... When the CDPUserSvc is disabled, you won't see a CDPUserSvc_xxx in the registry

Newbie Contributor. I have this problem on AMD RAID desktop (MBR boot) with 1903 (but not on AMD RAID with GPT boot nor on Intel Dell Vostro Laptop both also with 1903, interestingly). The service hogs disk time which degrades system responsiveness. I do not use Xbox or any Bluetooth device but have left Xbox etc. default apps installed. I have worked around this by visiting HKLM\System\CurrentControSet\CDPUserSvc and changing the Start subkey from 2 (= Auto start) to 3 (= Manual start). So now the service doesn't run at bootup but could be started either manually or programmatically. This keeps my system responsive without disabling the service altogether. So far, no problems at all! Still don't really understand the function of this (nuisance) service, however.

Hey, so it still fixed even when it's manual or need to disable the whole service? want to make sure.

Yes, this is an effective fix on my Win 10 Pro 1903 AMD RAID system. The fix is not needed on a similar Win 10 Pro system upstairs (AMD RAID also but a slightly different motherboard), so why this is so is a mystery. I have avoided disabling the service altogether to avoid unexpected consequences - Microsoft must have a reason for this service's existence. I recommend you try the same compromise as I have adopted. Best of luck!
