? Yes, I dont doubt his better wisdom than mine, but I would like to query Count Mike's following post to yours.

I have the free edition of malware bytes installed , as I have done for a long time. The computer(s) do not even know it is there, unless I open it and run a scan. Without this action from me, it doesn't show up as a running process anywhere.
I do not have the options to check for updates, or run ion startup.

I am not a novice user, and, as far as I am aware, a program, although on the computer, but in this state, would have no impact on the performance of the said computer.
The above relates to my Post 5 where I mentioned Malwarebytes Free was slowing my laptop booting despite being in offline mode. The boot delay is gone now I've uninstalled Malwarebytes.

Malwarebytes can be set so they don't interfere with anything until called to check. In free version resident mode is not available anyway.

Ok. I surrender. I guess it is an individual interpretation of what is meant by resident.

One way to consider it resident is if it autostarts and/or has permanent service running. On Demand is when you have to start it manually and there's no process left running after it's closed.

I'd like to hear your definition or whatever is "official".

I am not starting an argument! I accept what you say. As I said from my humble lower status, as far as computers are concerned, you are most likely correct. It is just my point of view. SteveC obviously had the full edition in an active state. Closed

I wasn't looking or asking for an argument but am genuinely interested.

Its not individual its how it is. Resident means it stays in memory and is active. The term terminate and stay resident was used a lot for such programs in the 90s such as Sidekick (the best example).
