Best and safest way to Clean My Files

I have a lot of old and unwanted files on my comp and would be grateful if anyone could advise me which is the safest and best cleaner for a novice (Me) to use.

    Ccleaner in my opinion.

Regardless of any cleaner, do NOT use a registry cleaner. It won't give any benefit, but will give the risk for new issues.

    only my opinion.
Ccleaner, or any other, will not clean out "old and unwanted files". It sounds more like a manual task ahead, if you know which files they are.

    To expand on davehc's post...

First, get a feel for what types of files are taking up space. Then you'll be in a better position to decide how to deal with them.

Go to Settings. Either click the Action Center Icon bottom right, or WINKEY+A .....

    Click All Settings. Click System.

Peruse your files and data, take some notes, decide what can go, have a plan for backing them up first.

    Go slowly.

Many of them do, although not equally properly.

Ron, I would follow TC's outline as it will be the safest way for you
to identify items you may want to remove and free up drive space.

This is a good way to get started, you can ad a cleaner program later on if you feel you need to.

    Ron,

Here is an easier way to start cleaning up your system.

    Look at this Tutorial :

    Use Option one

Open and Use Disk Cleanup in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials

When it opens, place a check mark in all the boxes > then Delete everything it finds.

This might take a few minutes or longer depending on how much it finds.

Please ask any questions if you are not sure of a step.
