Don't SSDs use a feature called Trim instead of the conventional Defrag application?
    Berton,

Yes but it is the utility defrag.exe that does the trim ["retrim"] whether run on its own or under the control of the Optimise drives GUI that is illustrated above. Manual use of defrag.exe for an SSD requires defrag.exe's O switch or its L switch to be set - the automatically set up task includes the O switch by default for, at least, systems containing SSDs.

It's all grouped as Optimization, Trim for SSD, defrag for HDD. AS you can see, it's set for Weekly optimization but it's not happening, seen it go over a month. It really doesn't matter much as disks are not fragmented to any bad degree. I'v run benchmarks before and after defrag/trim and didn't detect any difference.

    Mike,

If you were worried about it, I would mention that there are records in Event Viewer - Log: Windows-Application, Source: Defrag
{I also have Source: Defrag-Core set in my filter in the hope of finding out what it is but there haven't been any records for that so far}.

Does anyone here ever used defraggler 3rd party made by CCleaner ? I tried to install it and its give me option whether i want to replace default windows defragment or no. Does it mean Defraggler will do weekly defrag same as defragment ?

I have not used Defraggler for a very long time. Before I had SSDs, i did use it some. but it became very intrusive, and actually made more of a mess than it helped. Windows built in native Optimize/Defrag is more than sufficient. It does a good reliable job. Defraggler should never be used on an SSD, if you have them. It says it "handles" them properly with a trim command, but it is totally unnecessary. You are better off sticking with native Windows on this one. It is maintained and engineered to work best with Windows.

    Just a heads-up...

    Code:
    http://www.condusiv.com/products/diskeeper/default.aspx
Solid product. Not just for HDD's but SSD's as well. For internal drives only.

This product is specific to SSD's -

    Code:
    http://www.condusiv.com/products/ssdkeeper/
I have used both. Give the website a good read. Run the trials.

This has been discussed many times here but SSDs DO NEED defragging periodically to keep the NTFS file system in tip top condition. Think of it as a partial defrag i.e. data is not moved around in same way as an hdd.

However, this is only likely to be needed if drive is used a lot for reading and writing, and nearly full. Most users probably never really need it until well over 50% fragmented.

My SSD was 35% fragmented and I did a defrag but difference in performance was no detectable as far as I could tell.

Others here have discovered that if yiu backup a partition using Macriium Reflect Free and restore it to a slightly smaller partition, the partition is defragged on the fly and this way is much faster than using tools like defraggler (and imo more reliable)

Actually Windows built-in defrag program does a great job most of the time. I agree the interface is terrible but it does its work.

Piriform's Defraggler has got a nice interface but it can be UTTERLY SLOW at times. I just use it ocasionaly on my HD partitions.
