Windows 10 1803 compress problem

Hey guys :)

Usually when I compress the c:// I get back about 2 gbs of space

Since the update I compressed and the winsxs folder actually got bigger after compressing?
Is their a bug somewhere?

Actually the windows folder in general got bigger resulting in only 200 mb of space freed after compression.....

I have to add, before compressing I run the disk component cleanup and it makes it smaller but after compressing windows folder is bigger than before compressing

What’s the difference between right clicking the c: and compressing and using compactos???

If files are compressed often compressing them again does make them bigger

I understand but usually with a clean install I compress the c and it makes everything smaller.... 1803 not the same case for the windows folder

What’s the difference between compactos and just compressing the c: (right click)

In general, using ntfs compression to compress existing files is one of the best ways I know to fragment a drive. As I recall, the last time I did it the drive became 43% fragmented. Not really a good idea on an HDD, not if you want a fast system

For sure but are you able To tell what the difference between compactos and compressing the c drive manually by right clicking ?...

For details of how compactos works see this tutorial and the Microsoft links it contains. I've not used it, but it appears to be quite different from ntfs compression.
