    Laptop Startup on Battery Failure

My smallThomson NEO 10.1" laptop refuses to startup on it's battery ever since updating W10 last month to the latest version. When trying to start the blue indicator comes on briefly and then goes out. Starting is only possible when using the mains adaptor. Can anyone give me an explanation for this and is there any way to restore start up from the battery?

    Hi A Gray

Your battery maybe giving indications to Windows that it has issues and Windows is helping you by preventing a failure.

Start it on mains and then head to the Advance Power options. Last section is battery. You will see options as to what windows 10 should do if it finds battery faults. You can set it to do nothing.

You might also run this battery report. Depending on age of battery I would investigate replacement.

You could take out the battery then reinsert it after a minute or so if it is user accessible - that might reset the battery status.

Thanks for your replies. I have done some further tests myself.and now believe that I have a faulty battery power indicator on the taskbar which is showing 100% when the battery is in fact discharged. Leaving the laptop plugged in but switched off for a period of time and then trying to start on battery is working. I just don't know how much power is in the battery. I'll leave it charging for several hours and see what happens.
My laptop is only 3 months old so should anything be physically wrong with it I will return it to the retailer for repair.

Did quick search and found a few hits.

One HP forum suggested calibrating battery. This procedure may not be the one for your laptop so you could research the steps for your device. HP forums would likely be the best place as it is specific to HP. That said huge amount of knowledge and equipment on this forum. Maybe a new thread with the known issue could bring in answers.

Another thing you could usefully look at is Device Manager. You should find 'ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery' under Batteries. Try uninstalling it then let Windows scan for new hardware and reinstall it.

Thanks for further replies. I have the following updates to the problem:-
    (1) Under Device Manager> Batteries I have "Intel Battery Management Device" and when I look into this further it states that the device is working properly. I tried updating the driver and I t says that the latest driver is installed. I have also tried disabling the device but that makes no difference (the computer still crashes) and the battery monitor has disappeared from the task Bar.
    (2) Once fully charged the computer will start up on the battery but within a few seconds of plugging anything into a USB port it crashes and won't restart on the battery even after unplugging the device. The devices I've tried are a 32 GB pen drive (which works perfectly on my desktop PC) and a WiFi dongle(required because of the abysmal internet speed otherwise) The latter works very well on mains power and up until recently worked very well on battery power.

Sorry just confirming, you went into the Advance Power options and made the necessary changes under the Battery heading?

So you didn't try my suggestion to uninstall it, then? When Windows scans for new hardware it will choose the most appropriate driver. That may be the 'Intel' again, but I suspect it's more likely to be the 'ACPI-Compliant...' one.
