Hi dalchina,
When I got the laptop back, it came with a paper this is what it says:
Comments
OS is reinstalled due to unit slow performance issue. Unit passed all HP functional and component tests. BIOS version- F.23. Memory count- 4096 MB.
So all they've done is a reinstall and a cleanup. I did the same before that. I reinstalled, but it didn't help. Right when it came back it was basically alright, although it straight away started updating Windows, since it came back on version 1709. So I can't say for def that it was ok. Since the updates though, it's been just as bad as it was beforehand.
I spoke to an HP person yesterday, who played around with my laptop for over an hour. He agreed it was slow but then said no thats normal he's seen slower. I told him this isn't normal for a brand new laptop. He messed around and changed all the settings. Disabled Windows updater, prefetcher, cortana added a registry something, etc. I'm not happy about all these changes, I told him so. He said to try it out until Thursday when he will call back to find out if it has been any better. It hasn't! He changed the screen so that it looks very unclear, as if it's an old screen. I'm just not happy with any of the settings he changed, plus he only brought down the memory by 10% which still left it at over 40%. CPU is still over 30% when doing nothing. He pointed out by doing all these changes on another computer he got it down from 80% CPU to 20%. That doesn't make any difference to me since I don't want it to be more than 2-3% when doing nothing. I also don't want all these changes. It's not a long term solution.
I'll try anything that could work. He should call me back tomorrow, so if not by then I'm going to try ask for new unit. He wasn't very keen when I asked last time, but I refuse to be left with a brand new broken laptop.
Thanks for any help you can give.
Awaiting your kind response.
