Laptop extremely slow- during start-up and generally

    Hello,

I have had my lap top (make, model and specs in my system details) since Feb, and recently it has become very slow when starting up. Also after start-up it can take time for programs to load. I have taken a trace using Windows Assessment Toolkit which is here (https://transfernow.net/807cl107pd3m).
I started recording as soon as I was able to after starting up. After 50 seconds I started Thunderbird. As I write this; I am trying to load the file, but it has taken more than a 5 mins and still says 51%.

Anyone able to give any ideas what's going on?
    Thanks

    Hi
Can you compress the file before you upload it. It's more than 2 Gb.

WeTransfer is pretty easy to use (up to 2GB in filesize for free version).

It's better to start by analyzing the boot trace.

Record the ETL file on an external storage device, so that you 'll not add overhead to your HDD.

I tried to do a boot trace but when I clicked the start button it just went to the save menu. Whilest I was trying to do it I had the Task Manager open and the Resource Monitor, the CPU and Disk were both running wild. So I took a general trace which I've uploaded here (https://transfernow.net/08hmg1n2f4gt). I noticed that e.g. Thunderbird and Visual Studio both were in the Resource Monitor being used in Disk, but both weren't running.
I have had this problem once before, and that was because of the superfetch, I don't know if it's the same reason again or something else. I have done a system reinstall since that time, which could have undone everything I did then.
    Thanks

It's the normal behavior, you have to choose the path where to save the trace file, and after that the WPR will restart the OS and start recording the trace.

If you have any trouble recording the boot trace using the GUI, you can then try with the command line:

    1. Ppen a command line as an Administrator (Run As Administrator)
    2. Type the following command in the command line Windows: cd %programfiles(x86)%\Windows Kits\10\Windows Performance Toolkit
    3. Type the following command to start recording the boot trace: wpr -start GeneralProfile -start CPU -onoffscenario Boot -onoffresultspath c:\wpr -numiterations 1 -filemode
    4. Compress the .ETL file generated under the C:\WPR path (very important)
    5. Upload the boot trace file on Dropbox or on https://www.transfernow.net/en/

Your boot delay is caused by High disk I/O. You have a 5400 rpm disk and this causes bottlenecks especially when the superfetch is not working properly...

The first boot phases before the logon screen is displayed, took 33s. most of the activity is generated by the superfetcher.

I'll not suggest disabling this service. it can help improving disk performance when working properly.

You have to run this command to repair and train the prefetcher so that it'll do its job as expected:

    xbootmgr -trace boot -prepSystem -verboseReadyBoot

this reboots Windows 6 times, does a defrag and trains the prefetcher again

in the logon screen, there is a delay of 27s; 16s is because the winlogon is waiting for the prefetcher (again the superfetch is involved).
The next 10s, represent the time you wait before you hit the CTRL+ALT+DEL keys to open your session.

The post boot phase took 2 min. in this phase there are many auto-start programs and services are launched. so during this time, your computer is laggy because of a high disk I/O.
In your case, I've noticed that there are some programs that cause a high disk I/O (AMD ReLive Host Application, HPAudioSwitch, HP Support Solutions Framework Service ...)

You can prevent the not necessary application, you don't really use, from starting automatically...

try these recommendations an see if it help.
