graphics : mobile intel(r) 4 series express chipset family wddm 1.1

graphics driver update check: intel says no new drivers found
ran system file checker, no problems found

when I play a saved video offline, and when I play a video online with youtube there seems to be skipping or stuttering on both audio and video being played. it's not horrible but enough where it is noticeable and annoying.

I have Kaspersky internet security and windows defender. ive disabled both to see if that helped but no difference.

the display is set at :

1280x800
60hz refresh rate (only one that shows)
8 bit depth
rgb format
color space sdr

has anyone had this problem and know of a fix? excuse my tech ignorance please.

Hi, the starting point to this is Resplendence's LatencyMon (free).

However, diagnosing and resolving the exact cause is less than straightforward.

If you care to search this forum for e.g.

you will find a number of posts on this topic which might help to point you in the right direction.

You may find, for example, you need to use an older version of a particular driver. Others have found other causes. I seem to recall some found an Intel utility responsible.

It should play 480p videos fine, but it's going to struggle at 720p if that Intel GMA X4500M is not an HD variant

It may be Win 10 compatibility issues. Dell only supports (has drivers) for XP/Vista/Win 7.

Playing those videos on browser, system needs a large amount of cpu and memory use which causes skipping etc. There are two ways to improve performance:

1. Lower video analysis using the "gear" on the right bottom of YouTube video.

2. Playing it with VLC media player.
Open YouTube video on browser even on HD analysis, right click on video-->Copy video URL and close video page to stop playing/downloading.
Then open VLC, go to Media menu-->Open Network Stream, paste video URL and Play.
This is the best way to see those videos because VLC does not need too much CPU and memory.
Of course, VLC can also play (stream, save etc.) almost all kinds of Audio/Video files.

Unfortunately, you cannot do much with that graphics nowadays...

Hi, I got the same issues on 2 E6400 machines, I think it was after Creators update. Changing SATA Opearation in BIOS from IRRT to ATA solved it for me. /Tomas

I've seen this potential solution a few times but I was wondering if this can be done without having to completely reinstall my OS?

Hi, I think there is some risk bacause both my machines went in to recovery mode but they managed to recover so i didn't have to reinstall. /Tomas

The thing with GPU drivers these days, it creates a lot of issue when you install the latest driver on top of existing ones. This is probably why DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) was developed. If you are having issues with your GPU after an update, download the latest driver from manufacturer's website and use DDU (in safe mode) to clean install the latest driver.
