How To Run SFC Scan On External HD

This is sorta a two part question. I have an external drive that when I hook it up the Win 10 Action Center Pane tells me there may be errors and it needs a scan. My first question is, I coulda swore that I used to be able to click on the dialog in the action center and it used to open up whatever it needed to do right from there. Clicking on it does nothing now. Am I wrong that you could do that before?

Second, how do I run an SFC scan on an external? I've found a couple instructions that say you can do it through a command prompt but I wasn't able to follow the directions enough to be able to do it. I did scan the drive overnight using HD Tune and it came back clean, but I'd like to run an SFC scan so hopefully I don't get that message everytime.

    Thanks.

    Cmd
    run admin
    list disk
chose the disk you want to work with
    Chkdsk X: /F
X is the disk you want to scan

DISM is usually used on a Windows system disk/SSD

If HD Tune says your disk is good, I would believe that. it's a very good program.

"sfc /scannow" (if that's what you meant by SFC) checks and eventually fixes only system files on disk Widows are booted from and doesn't do anything for data drives external or internal. Chkdsk is one of the ways to check File System.

Thanks guys, I knew I probably got that wrong. With that being said I just googled Chkdsk instead of SFC and got a much easier way of doing it.

Can anyone tell me about the Action Center Pane? I swear things are supposed to be clickable straight from there. Should I be starting a new topic for that?

Yeah, that's the easier way I found. Much easier than using command prompt for someone like me. Appreciate it.
