    Windows 10 F Drive Full

Did the update for Windows 10 1803 and now there is a Disk F which seems to be a partition Windows made and it said it is full, but there are no files in it. I had tech support from where I bought the desktop and did a remote but they didn't get rid or fix the problem. Googling it shows it can be dealt with but I never fooled around with the OS. Any help on this would be appreciated

This is a well-documented side-effect for some systems upgraded to 1803. The trick is to unassign the drive letter. If you do that, the disk full reports will no longer be produced. There's a tutorial for that: Remove Drive Letter in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials. Option 2 is probably what you need to follow.

PS: you might also want to check the partition details for the mysterious new drive. If they don't match these, please post them here and we can follow up with further possible repairs:

That's how it should look on a UEFI system using gpt partitions. They will look quite different on a legacy bios MBR system. This is a typical MBR one.

For both gpt and mbr, the key feature that identifies this as a partition that shouldn't normally have a drive letter is the Type, either the guid number in Ed's screenshot, or '27' in the mbr one.

Thanks for covering the MBR side of the street, @Bree. All of my machines are GPT/UEFI now, so I don't always stop to recall the other, older way of doing things. Sorry about that! Nice catch on your part.

None of mine are, I really must get one so I can put all the theory I've learned here into practice :)

Thought it best to cover all bases, we don't know the OP's full specs yet.

I found an easy way to deal with the problem. When that annoying message comes up "Drive F" (for me). Click on the message and see that 2 empty files are involved. An option to delete them is given. I did that and so far the message has not re-appeared

I tried this as well - the message disappears, but comes back the next time (and every time) I restart the system. I am not comforable with fixes that require me to make registry modifications, etc.

Yes, I found it came back to me too. However; it has stopped it coming up every 10 minutes. I cannot understand why Microsoft has not put through a fix for it.

If you disassociate the drive letter from the recovery partition (which is not supposed to have one) you will fix the issue permanently. You can use a partition management tool such as MiniTool Partition Wizard (free) or use the built-in DiskPart utility to take care of this. Details are provided earlier in this message thread for the latter; MPTW is easy enough to use to make this happen: select the partition, right-click, and select change drive letter from pop-up menu, then pick None as the current drive letter.

Because it isn't something that needs to be fixed. This behavior has happened since the beginning of Windows installations. If you have a readable partition, it often gets assigned a drive letter. That's done on purpose. The solution, as mentioned above, is well documented. Just take away the drive letter from the partition.
