    Dear Deacon, Thank you for the detailed fix on being bothered by a drive apparently nearly full. I followed it and the annoyance has gone away.
    However; I cannot agree with you that a microsoft fix is not necessary. I have been using Windows for over 10 years and have never seen an extra drive on "My PC" - or been told that it is almost full. (unless I have inserted one myself in a USB socket).

    The trick to preventing drive letter coming back is to do it with diskpart as follows:-


    list volume

    select volume n (n=number of partition in question)

    remove all (all parameter removes mount point as well as letter - that stops it coming back after reboot)

    We can debate experience and time all we want. It was a common and easy to reproduce with previous versions of Windows. No fix necessary. You see the new drive, check it out in Disk Management and remove the drive letter once you realize what the partition is. That's how Windows installers have acted as long as I can remember.
