    Windows 10 SSD TRIM help

I have been using a Samsung 850 EVO for just over 2 years as my OS drive and it transformed my pc, fast and quiet. In the last few months I noticed it is not being automatically optimized/trimmed by Windows 10 on it's weekly schedule. I am able to manually optimize it.

I checked if trim was enabled by running this command

It says "DisableDeleteNotify =0" which should mean trim is enabled, but it also says Disabled next to it

I installed Samsung Magician which states trim is enabled. Speed benchmarks seemed fine also.

I do have two partitions on the one SSD (one for OS and one for games) Could this be causing an issue? I want to be sure the SSD is being trimmed/optimized properly to ensure the reliablity of the drive.

    Thanks.

I get the same disabled message on both PowerShell and CMD, I have never seen that before. But I can see that my secondary drive for games got optimized yesterday, consequently I installed a game recently on it. I think Windows just ignores that schedule on partitions/drives when it's not needed. My main partition for the os hasn't been touched in 24 days according to Windows regardless of a weekly schedule. I think it's "normal".

I have commented on this for a long time and conclude its a bug:

Calling SSD users. What does your 'Optimise' window show ?

Then it must be a bug that's been happening for aeons then because this behavior has been there since this feature came out on Windows 7. Regardless of what it's supposed to do, one shouldn't worry about it when running SSDs. :) However I'm curious -- as pliskken -- as to why it says disabled in PS and CMD. I can't recall it saying that in the previous W10 builds.

I have a Samsung 950 Pro NVMe SSD. Magician says trim is turned on. I get the same results from the PS command as you do. My advice: don't worry about it. Nothing to worry about, as far as I can tell.

It's a bit confusing, but it shows "0 (disabled)" for "disabledeletenotify" to have TRIM support enabled.

    Thanks for the replies.

I'l just leave it be and let windows or the firmware take care of it. The SSD is two years old and the health/speeds look ok so I must try not to worry ha.

Is it ok to create multiple partitions on a SSD just like any old HDD? I do this so system image backups are smaller and faster to create.

Correct. You can treat a SSD just like a HDD.
