Optimzing a M.2 SSD for WIndows 10 Home

    Hi All

Laptop has a smallish 128gb M.2 SSD with Windows 10 Home on it, is there anything optimization wise I should do, or just leave it as is, with the proper drivers installed and such. Don't wanna do too much tweaking and result in errors or performance loss or have too many writes to the SSD drive, and then have to go thru trouble of replacing or having an authrozied tech do that since it's still under warranty

Since its a fast m.2 you can disable hibernation by doing powercfg -h off in command prompt, thatl save you a lot of space. You can also choose to save your files to OneDrive. Run disk cleaner to free up space and remove software/apps you dont need.

Ok Will take care of the hibernation asap on that system, yup files saved to Onedrive or the included storage drive that came with laptop, (1tb), and clean installed to 1803 recently so only programs use on it at this point. So think all good, my second system with SSD Drive so far in the household

You could get a 1tb portable drive, put files you dont access very often on it.

If you use the notebook as a desktop replacement then there is little downside turning off hibernation.
If you use the notebook battery a lot then the hibernation option is useful.
Can you use a flash drive?

I have a ton of flash drives, I have several externals, Laptop is used a few hours every other day, Desktop used the Most, both Intel I7 based Processors, So both about same in terms of speed, and ability to get things done.

Switch off between Battery usage some days, AC Power other days if I wanna run a game, or stream a Steam game from Desktop, it varies what I decided to do each time use it, or sometimes watch Netflix with that laptop/youtube, some light email work, some gaming off and on, most of my gaming is on Desktop though lately lol

Why don't you just use the TRIM functionality is Windows 10, which is enabled and scheduled by default?

Enable or Disable TRIM Support for Solid State Drives in Windows 10 Windows 10 Tutorials

If you don't want to do this just look under Defrag/Optimization in W10.
It will not Defrag your SSD, (only HDD's) so just simply TRIM it.

It's hard to squeeze blood out of a stone, lol. :)

Yes I knew about Trim feature, that is one thing I did learn on with my first SSD in the Desktop, so think i'm all good at this point
