Antimalware Service Executable using more memory than usual

For the past week or so, I have noticed the Antimalware Service Executable (Windows Defender) sitting there using much more memory than it used to, sometimes more than 300 megabytes. I have no idea what it is doing, but this means that it will be less time before I inevitably have to reboot because of the memory leak I talked about in my very first post. Why is this happening? If you've read my previous posts, you'll know that I am on Windows 10 1703, just in case that's relevant.

The more files your system access the more RAM your AV use. 300MB is not much. I've seen WD to go up to over 1.5GB for a short period while doing heavy IO on HDD and then returning down to a few hundred MB.

I don't think you have much to worry about. Maybe check what else you have running in background that could cause a memory issue increase. :)

May have no bearing on it at all, but want to point out in 6 months 1703 will go out of support. I'm sure you're aware you are a release behind, and when MS gets the bugs out soon, 2 releases behind. There have been fixes for memory leaks and such. And much more. Just advising.....

The status quo for me is for WD to be using in the range of 50 to 80 megabytes of memory, but right now it is using 115 megabytes of memory.

Yeah it varies a lot. If Windows is doing some background maintenance, WD can use a lot of RAM. Same goes for Windows Apps updates that get updated in the background and you would not even notice it unless watching Task Manager. :)
