Every couple of minutes, it seizes the system for 10-15 seconds. Chasing the PID to Process Explorer, it's running RpcEpMap.DLL and rpcss.DLL. Can anyone tell me how to shoot this further? I don't know what's kicking it off. When it runs, it averages just under 7% CPU but I can't tell what it's waiting or looping on.

There have been 188 other views of my post, but no one has offered any additional troubleshooting help. When EndPointMapper grabs the system, it uses about 20% CPU for as much as a minute.

You can use Windows Performance Toolkit to troubleshoot this kind of issue;
First you need to record a trace when your proble occurs, you can do that from the command line:
- Open a command line as Administrator;
- Type this command "wpr -start generalprofile -start CPU -start DiskIO"; this will start trace recording.
- Record when the issue occurs.
- Then type this command to stop trace recording "wpr -stop C:\Temp\MyTrace.etl". Make sure the folder where you record the trace exist.
- Compress the resulting file (Important)
- Share it through TransferNow or any other file sharing platform.
I'll analyze your trace file and give you a feedback. With a small chance we can find what this process is doing and what's trigger it.
For some reason, the problem occurs much less frequently when I have Resource Monitor running and trying to catch it.
It seem's that uninstalling WD SmartWare and WD Quick View. 2.4.20.48 helped.. I just started uninstalling recently installed programs one by one and system freezes stopped after getting rid of those WD tools. Hope that path helps someone :)
I have stopped running DropBox and that seems to decrease the frequency. However, without Resource Monitor running, my mysterious system grabber has not appeared for several days, making the little bugger hard to catch!
