    I don't have enough time to analyze the boot trace now, but at first glance your problem is related to your second disk (HDD).

    Does your HDD contains systems files? When you unplug it does your system boot correctly ?

    I'll look indepth to the boot trace this evening;

    You never stated this in the thread.
    Is Windows on the ssd or the hdd?
    Have you removed the temporary files, optimized/defragmented, etc.?
    Have you run Check Disk on the ssd and hdd?
    All things you need to do.
    If the ssd and hdd maintenance aren't done, of course your pc is gonna get slow.

    One question: Did you setup your paging file location on the HDD ?

    Are your personal files on the h.d.d. or s.s.d./
    I have the following setup on my pc:
    M2 ssd = Windows/Programs/Newer Games/Page File
    ssd 2+Bulk of Games
    H.D.D.= My User Account Contacts, Documents, Downloads, Favorites, Links, Music, Pictures, Saved Games, Searches, Pictures and Videos
    A: If that's kind of the same case as you, the h.d.d. failing will slow Windows down, as it may not be seeing and looking for your personal files on the h.d.d.
    If that is the case and you have them backed up to a external h.d.d., I'd go and try to repoint Windows to that location for them, until you replace the internal h.d.d.
    If you don't have them backed up to a external h.d.d, but you have one, you can do what I did when my Barracuda failed on this one.
    Be forewarned though, it's a agonizingly long tedious task due to the bad h.d.d. frequently disappearing.
    Go into Safe Mode and make atleast the following ffolders on it Documents, Downloads, Favorites, Music, Saved Games (if a gamer and some older games) and videos.
    If you have subfolder for any of those on the bad h.d.d., cut & paste them into the folders you made on the external h.d.d.
    The tedioud part is this will take forever, as more than likely the bad h.d.d. will keep disappearing and require frequent restarts into Safe Mode to accomplish it.
    It took me like 8 or 9 hours to do it on my pc.

    @gilescore
    I think that your problem is related to your HDD health state and your paging file configuration.

    Your page file is probably split over your two Disks (SSD & HDD); In the Disk usage graph I see access to 2 page files, one on the SDD and the second one on the HDD. and these access fits under the time range when the delay is noticed in the Session Init phase.

    What to do ?

    Open the registry editor (Regedit)
    Under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" check the value of this key "PagingFiles"
    If you find two values, that confirm my assuption. you have to put this value instead "?:\pagefile.sys"
    You can also check and change this value from the virtual memory properties Windows as I mentioned in my previous post, by checking .
