Long boot time with Samsung Evo

I use Samsung 960 NVMe M.2 storage on an Asus board, no issues.

Thinking out loud, is this a firmware issue on drive ?

I stayed on the older firmware that the drive came with. Not sure if the above issue has been fully resolved.

I'm not sure what is causing this longer boot time but I did notice that Superfetch was set to disable when browsing through Windows setting in Ultimate Windows Tweaker, a utility app that I've had installed for years but only used very occasionally. I also had hibernate disabled.

I tried enabling superfetch and hibernate but the boot times to the desktop are no different. Previously, Windows would boot to the desktop in around 30-40 seconds but now it is double that, not exactly slow I'll admit but still obviously slower than it was previously.

Of course, these things are extremely difficult to pin point to a single cause, not helped by the fact that I've upgraded Windows (keeping all my settings and apps/games) twice from v1709 build 16299.xx to v1803 build 17128 and finally to build v17133.1, which is the final release build of the Spring Creators Update, plus there's fixes for the Spectre/Meltdown bugs which I've read can affect SSD/hard drive loading speeds.

If the slowdown has occured just after the Upgrad to the 1803, I'd recommand to check for drivers updates on the manifacturer website. Usually it's a driver issue.

For more detailled diagnostic I'd recommand taking a boot trace:
1. Create a folder where to register the boot trace (Ex: C:\WPR)
2. Open a command line as an Administrator (Run As Administrator)
3. Type the following command in the command line Windows: cd %programfiles(x86)%\Windows Kits\10\Windows Performance Toolkit
4. Type the following command to start recording the boot trace: wpr -start CPU -onoffscenario Boot -onoffresultspath c:\wpr -numiterations 1
5. Upload the boot trace file generated under the C:\WPR path on Dropbox or on https://www.transfernow.net/en/

I'll try to analyze the boot trace.
If the delay occurs after the bios POST, it'll occurs on the boot trace. If the delay happens during the POST, you can check the following:

• PXE boot enabled
• If the boot order is well configured
• You don't have a dual boot (if you have 2 OS on the same machine)
• Update Bios & firmware
