Slight update. All of my downloads in torrent go to an external USB hard drive. Could any spyware/malware affect the main system even if it's on a "separate" part?

As long as storage online any malware can spill into system and other disks.

Thanks Mike. Must admit I get very worried and nervous whenever something isn't right with my desktop. Even the littles niggling things!

Sorry forgot to ask this yesterday. Does anybody know of a good utility to check SSD drives? When I get back from my holiday I'm gonna check for malware and my SSD drives as I have 2 of them

For checking SSD health, here's a potentially useful article that provides pointers to 7 different tools. I'd heard of most of these, but want to check out one or two myself: Best 7 Free Tools to Check SSD Health and Monitor Performance | Mashtips.

Back from holiday now and had a local PC shop check my hardware. Everything is fine and there is no issues (my PC did need a good clean though!)

Haven't experienced any major issues since returning but still getting every 3 days or so an ever so slight hang if you can call it that. My system itself doesn't freeze (this particular instance happened while i was using VLC to watch a video and for some reason i couldn't right click on a program to open it. The program itself is 32 bit and i am on 64 bit.

I'm under the assumption/impression but correct me if i'm wrong, that if the system itself doesn't freeze (IE the video still played fine with no interruptions) but there was still a definite hang for 3-5 seconds, it must be software related?

My guess would be software related. I wonder if the wobbles started after a windows update and that maybe the next cumulative update will iron it out. Really need to be able to get into task manager when it happens as I am sure something is consuming cpu cycles when it happens. Just to try and figure out what though

Cheers Scotty. Apart from the sliht hiccups every 2 to 3 days my system runs smoothly. I couldn't right click on the taskbar at first then 4 or so seconds later it popped back into life. Currently updating my graphics driver as its AMD
