Partially WRONG. I have noticed slowdowns even on SSD if Superfetch is disabled. And don't talk about disabling Superfetch for mechanical hard disks. I did a test yesterday (HD) and I noticed a huge performance decrease. I was monitoring memory using Resource Monitor and, after a while, the memory map was quite similar between both setups (Superfetch ON and OFF).

Also, Superfetch doesn't damage SSDs as many people wants you to believe. So, unless is working bad for you, I strongly advice leaving it ON all the time.

For OP: Do you have W10 up to date? Could it be some driver having issues? Chipset drivers up to date?
Well I did a clean install of it, and I recently went to the board manfuacturer and grabbed all available drivers for it (same for BIOS). If it is a driver causing this odd thing where do I even start? Some drivers are dated from 2016, but I can't exactly go and find the latest and greatest for every single one of them because some are not even compatible, like the latest Intel IDE/ATA/ATAPi drivers are not compatible for my x99 board. Also, doesn't chipset drivers only add an entry? Does it really need to be constantly updated? Those I have are also from 2016, same as Intel ME.

I dunno, I doubt a driver is causing this to be honest. What driver is interfering with SuperFetch anyway? And shouldn't Windows find it and update it for me if it actually caused problems specifically for the creators update? I'm thinking of trying out the insider builds, but I'm hesitant. Might aswell wait for the official release of the next update, whenever that happens, April, May maybe? I mean as I wrote before, it's not unplayable, and some games doesn't have this issue. Mostly games that requires high memory streaming are having this issue because it struggles to fetch data optimally from standby. Once it's free it's smooth sailing.

Just a small update on this. It is a Windows bug. I called Microsoft and got hold to a higher tier engineer working for tech support and he told me it's indeed an issue with how the os retrieves data on certain hardware configurations from standby memory. At least they acknowledge it, but he couldn't say anything about a fix or how long I need to wait for a new update... He only mentioned that I can use the feedback app and give sys info. Yup... I need to wait until April - May then for a new feature update in hopes that it resolves itself. If it doesn't then I need to live with turning off SuperFetch and clear my standby memory once in a while, or revert my os.

Not fixed in the April 2018 Update... I still need to follow this guide for a proper gaming experience on any build on and after The Creators Update: Standby memory issue causing stutters on creators : Windows10

This is interesting. Does it affect every system out there or just some configurations? 1803 is running fine for me and my games (8GB RAM)

    Hi

This happens on a range of different computers, but not all of course. What's nasty about this bug is that it doesn't release and swap buffered data in memory properly, so the next application can have performance issues once the standby memory is full. It certainly can happen on all programs, but games are more susceptible because they can use and cache a lot of data onto RAM more frequently, and they run on frametimes so they are easy to spot. It's hard to see this bug on almost all other programs, and I'd say most games out there aren't affected by it, only games that frequently use memory, e.g open world games and high asset games are affected, which means most modern titles actually. Microsoft have already confirmed this bug, and at this moment has been unable to fix it.

I have the same issue on an I7 5820K and GTX 1080 with 32GB RAM. I can't believe Microsoft still can't fix this issue, it has been going on for years. There's a massive thread on the Nvidia forums about it. The more different games you play in a session the more stutter you get, it's ridiculous. Emptying the standby list or restarting the PC fixes it or at least greatly reduces it.

Clear updates from Microsoft about the issue, how they are trying to fix it and their progress are sorely needed.

For all we know they may have tried to fix it and believe it fixed when it's not because they don't communicate with their customers. We can and should be able to verify whether it's fixed or not.

The problem is that Windows 10 currently have more than one flaw causing stutters or performance degradation, so their priority is probably scattered. There's this one with the standby memory that can happen on a good variety of computers, then there's two others that only affect Nvidia GPUs; One being a PWR & THRM stutter related to the boost functionality, the other being a G-Sync and frametime issue. Then there's an ongoing issue with the Xbox Gamebar overlay that can issues, and another one with the fullscreen optimization introduced in the Windows driver model 2.2. In other words it's a messy situation. If you want this fixed faster make sure you submit a report on the Windows Feedback app.

    Hi everyone.
Some of you may know me already as the maker of DDU (Display driver Uninstaller).
I decided to revive this old thread to let you know that I have made a little tool that can help you with gaming by purging the Standby list automatically when needed.
Feel free to try it out. It is available on my website @ wagnardsoft
It is named "Intelligent standby list cleaner" ISLC" in short.

Hi there Wagnard. I know of your programs Funny to see this thread popping up here again, I've totally forgot about it. My brain has kind of adapted to this issue with the standby memory stutters (sad as it sounds), but the 1809 update actually alleviated some of it. There's still stutters but not as "bad". I will definitely try out your program. I just can't understand why MS can't fix this 100% though… It worked flawlessly before the creation update 2 years ago. Their memory manager is all jacked up ever since...

Yeah, with 1809 it is better, but in my case, I still have issues playing Battlefield 1 & 4 when the standby list is full.
That is why I made this little app.
I'm open to feedback and suggestions if you or anyone try it.
