Until now I've been using CCleaner and Auslogics Disk Defrag to keep my computer performance and health good, but are these programs really necessary when there is Windows 10's own Disk Cleanup Tool?
What do you do to keep your computer running at peak performance?
Hi, you shouldn't need to worry about defragmenting these days.
Ccleaner is useful given it is configurable; I run it before creating my next disk image. (I suppose in one sense you could regard that as a risk).
I've never used its registry cleaner, nor do I use any such.
I make sure that when idle my resource use (CPU, disk, internet) is minimal or zero.
Despite having quite a few startups and a lot of programs installed, I can't remember experiencing decreased performance with time.
When uninstalling programs, I do use Geek uninstaller (Revo would be fine too) to remove items left by the program's own uninstaller.
Windows 10's own Disk Cleanup cleans Windows.
CCleaner cleans browsers and also some system stuff.
Auslogics Disk Defrag is usefull, if you want to be in control.
I use Windows Defrag at boot, as for cleanup: DiskCleanup, Ccleaner, WiseDiskCleaner, DriverStoreExplorer.

I use CCleaner because it removes Nvidia installation files and other stuff that disk cleanup don't remove. I don't use any registry cleaners and to TRIM my SSD I use Microsoft Defragment and optimize tool and for uninstalling apps etc I use Revo uninstaller PRO.

Defrag isn't needed anymore, Window is perfectly capable of doing that.
I use Ccleaner for maintenance with the startup, browser plugin and keeping track of temp files.
Ccleaner is pretty good for uninstalling a lot of the unwanted stuff that Windows 10 carries with it. Not everything. Nothing seems to be able to shift the 3D crud or the mixed reality portal.
A lot will depend on how you use your PC. That's what I experienced maintaining at least six PCs. That is, if you use the machine for browsing and leave it idle for some time, then the defrag should manage. But if you do a lot for the day, including moving around large numbers of files (big and small), testing software by installing and uninstalling, etc., and give no time for it to be idle and shut it down, the the defrag might not cope. If you defrag manually, it might or might nor speed up. I saw that with one machine that went through repair install.
That means just leave the internal defrag at default mode. It will defrag only small files and automatically trim SSDs. If there's a slow down, try a manual defrag, or reboot and try that. If it's still slow, and it's not caused by some program, then you will likely try a third-party defrag run manually. Auslogics is one of the best. In general, consider something that follows the prefetch layout.
If there's a slow down every month or so, and if the log shows that the built-in defrag hasn't been running as scheduled for some time, then that means for some reason something's not causing the scheduled defrag to run. In that case, you can probably use Auslogics scheduled.
About the clean up, the built-in one with all settings enabled looks good enough, but some third-party programs might be able to free up space if that's needed, and it can also help with the defrag. The built-in cleanup will be replaced soon by a storage sense feature.
Finally, an SSD for the boot drive is very helpful, but it's still expensive (you get a lot less storage in exchange for a regular drive at the same price). If you have more than enough apps and data such that they won't fit in the SSD, you'll need to put them in a regular drive that's installed in the same device.
Wisecleaner is making some useful Tools for your Windows PC, II have, and still are using them, not the registry cleaner.
I use Revo uninstaller which has most of the cleaning tools you will ever need other than defragment . This is all under the tools section . It was amazing under the junk files cleaner how much stuff it found that didnt need to be there . Cleaned them all except the thumbs and everything worked fine . It has a Autorun manager, Junk Files cleaner, Windows tools , Browsers cleaner, Microsft Office cleaner, Windows Cleaner , and file deletion tools. I'm impressed with the tools Revo has with it even with the free version .
